Hey all, I'm Ben. I joined the Facebook group the other day and someone suggested I join the forums here, so I did!
I've been wanting to get a project car for a few years now, to have something to work on in my free time as a hobby, but also to learn more about cars in general. I didn't grow up working on cars but over the past 10 years or so I've been learning a bit from a friend and helping him with anything he's working on so that I can learn more. We've done a rebuild on his mother-in-law's '05 Chevy Classic (twice), replaced the clutch and flywheel in my '06 Kia Optima, replaced the CV shaft on his '04 Audi A4 and then done all other sorts of more basic things like rotors and pads, plugs, belts, timing sets, etc.
I was just talking to a friend at work the other day about getting a first gen S-10 for my first build project. I learned to drive on an 82 S-10 back in 97-98, so there's a sentimental attachment there for me. I blew the motor in it when I was young, dumb and thought I could keep up with a brand new Silverado. Anyway, I have always been interested in the thought of having a sleeper. I don't want to have anything too flashy or with a huge blower stack coming out the hood or any of that nonsense. I want something that looks pretty ordinary but surprises the hell out of people, especially cocky pricks who drive like assholes because they have a "fast" car. I don't want a drag car, just something to have fun with and every once in a while put someone in their place
(Seems like the Syclone fits the bill perfectly!)
Anyway, my work buddy told me about the Syclone, which I'd never heard of. Well, to say I've spent a bit of time over the past few days learning about these would be an extraordinary understatement. I love everything I've seen about them so far and I'm determined to get a Sy (or maybe Ty) as soon as I can. I'd prefer a Sy because of having an S10 back in the day, but it seems like the Tys are a bit easier to find for not quite as much. I assume this is because there were ~1700 more of them made. Anyway, the Tys still look bad ass and since I have a few kids now, it might make more sense anyway.
At this point, I've got to save up my ducats to make a purchase, but until then I'll be trolling this site learning everything I can about them, and trying to find other locals who are also into the SyTy scene, and might be able to give me the inside scoop on anything that might come up for sale.
