hi, i'm james. i have always loved the typhoon and syclone but just now have i decided to attempt to get one. before i had an airbagged s10 and it just got old so i want to get a ty. when i was looking for one i found one on auto trader that seems pretty nice. one of the only problems i see iwth it is that it has a rebuilt engine and trasnmission. i'm not sure why but that makes me feel a bit uneasy. here is the link to the ty... http://www.ebizautos.com/windycitymotorsports/detail.cfm?iid=466857
what does everyone think about it having a rebuilt engine/transmission...should i keep looking or go after this one? thanks for ur help
p.s does anyone know whos ty that is?

The only thing I would be leary about is who did the rebuilding/work on the truck, and how it was performed. If the transmission shifts firm and the engine has no knock, I say go ahead. If there is oil leaks all over the place, and the transmission shifts soft, walk away.


Get another owner to go and look at it with you !!!!

yeah the only problem is its in illinois and i live in MN but if all goes according to plan then me and my friend who owns a ty will be going to look at it

Quite a few SyTy's have had something rebuilt, either the motor or the trans. Just check out who did it like Syclone#1992 said. It's nothing to really be alarmed with.

i just called on it and the engine was rebuilt 2,000 miles ago along with the transmission. the turbo was upgraded to a "2G turbo" and all parts required were upgraded with it. its got a new paintjob on it. the only problem i forsee is that the vavle stem seals need to be upgraded, i guess it smokes when it gets warm but i am calling back to see how much it is to replace those...anyone have any advice what i should do. also what will this new turbo do for me if i end up getting this ty. how much faster will it be?

If it smokes, I would walk away personally, not a good sign with 2,000 miles on a rebuilt motor. With the 20g, you may not notice a huge difference with out a good torque convertor.

like i said eh said the vavle stem seals are the reason why it smokes and they can be replaced for not a HOLE lot of money, and it has a new torque converter

well i just talked to the mechanic at the dealership where they have the ty and he said that all valve stem seals on older model small block GM's were pretty crappy and leaked a little bit so the smoking is no big deal. he said it only does it when it starts and when its ideling... anyone have any input it would greatly be appreciated...thanks

usually the valve seals stop smoking after its warmed up though.

If its not a big deal, have him pay to have the problem fixed. :-?

considering its a dealership and my mom said dealerships prices can be talked down i'll ask if they would considering fixing it without changing the price. it seems sketchy but i dunno, you guys know a lot more than i do

walk away, save your money for the right one...don't settle because "you have to have it now"...you'll pay on the long run!

good point, i'll keep drilling them with questions till i can make my mind up but what you said makes a lot of sense...maybe it will make my loan i have to take out smaller too if i can save money. confusing though, this seems so perfect other than the smoking problem, good price and all

nothing perfect about a smoking truck...you don't know who rebuild the motor/tranny, price seems good and ya gotta wonder why, and lastly its a dealership, honesty about anything is 0%....i can't think of one reason why you would consider this except for you have the syty itch to buy...if you don't wait for the right truck, that loan of yours won't be enough to fix what the problems could be.

so i shouldnt even waste my time calling to ask what company did the rebuild and then calling them asking why they didnt upgrade that part? the price is the main reason i got so excited, all the ohter ty's for that price either ahve 150,000 miles on them or are on the other side of the country
