Hi all,
I figured I would join your forum, more or less for information purposes at this point in time. I'm located right on the PA/OH line, and have recently come across a Syclone in "decent" shape. Broken windshield, broken foglights, some body rust. The truck is in running condition, and is driven daily. The owner is considering sale. I just have to work out a price with him. The cheaper the better considering the cosmetics, and assumed mechanicals that it will require to get it into good shape.
My main goal for it is to do maintaince, and get it to where it was as good/better than new mechanically. I'm considering de-badging it and doing some minor modifications to use it as a sleeper until I have the funds to restore it properly.
About me: Currently Im a student studying secdondary education-social sciences intergrated (history), and also pre-law. I work with my grand-dad. He installs autoglass and repairs interior water leaks for local dealerships. He owns his own business, and has been doing this for 37 years now. (Needless to say, the syclones' damaged windshield won't be something that I'll have a problem with, heh.)
I have owned a variety of cars, as has my grand father. We're very automotive oriented. My current vehicle is also GM, its a 05 Cobalt SS/SC. I've done some modifications to it, putting it in the mid 13 sec. range. My grand-dad owns a 1 of 89 1970 CHEVELLE SS 454 Convertible. Its astro blue, white stripes, white top. Its had a full restoration.
I've had RX-7s, (80s turbo models), an eclipse, and mostly cavaliers. (Mind you Im only 22). Im interested in purchasing the syclone for restoration purposes, then modification. From what I've been reading, the transmission is the weak link in the power train.
My areas of expertise, besides autoglass, are mainly in custom turbo builds. Mainly blow-through carb. turbo setups. Im also into engine management systems. Which brings me to ask, how many of you run the FAST XFI system on your syclone? I'm kind of skeptical about the older technology of the PCM, so I'd lean towards the engine management system as one of my first modifications upon purchase of the syclone. (not saying its necessary, just kind of a personal preferance thing.)
Hopefully I can contribute here. Also hopefully, I can snare this syclone, and get it back to its former glory. I'll keep you guys posted.
Take care,
Chris-
