I have an 05 jimmy with 4.3 vortec that i,m taking out. i have my choice of an 02 5.7 vortec with 255 hp which would be a much easier install cause it is identical except for 2 extra cylinders.no wiring changes except for an ecm reflash. OR an 03 5.3 with 285 hp. i would have to get an ecm and wiring harness but i don,t know how big a mod this will be to get in. the oil pan looks deeper but i can,t tell if it is the way. any input is much appreciated.

Depends on what. you want to do with the vehicle, and your budget. And there is more to swapping the 5.7 than just an ecm reflash.

i meant the 5.7 is an easier wiring swap compared to the 5.3.The 5.7 and the 4.3 are both cpi engines. Each engine will need custom mounts, exhaust, steering shaft etc I have about 2 bills to put it in.Each engine is 500. I like the 5.3 for the extra 30 hp thks Pat

well no matter what your going to need a different radiator. I was planning this to do in my 2000 blazer and i know you will need a specific oil pan for it (maybe only if its 4wd not sure) but i know it will need the extra cooling. let me see if i still have the article i was reading saved...

I wasn,t sure about the rad, good to know. the 5.7 is out of a 4x4 denali but its hard to tell from just looking at it if the pan will fit Maybe manifold too

Are you keeping the jimmy's trans too or are you going to put a different one in? i know the 4l60e (i believe thats what it has) is able to take it but it might make you more comfortable to put something more beefy behind whichever engine you choose. especially if that trans has some decent miles on it.

I,m sticking with this trans because the ecu will run it properly ,It shifts nice now but i,m sure the extra power will bring out the worst in it There is a really good trans shop in town
