This was early on after reading many posts on the purple wire issue. It's different now because I've moved the bat to the bed but same idea.
Same result. Original starter, original purple wire. Never an issue. Even done as above I still could evidence of heat on the exposed terminal so in addition I now have a starter wrap going around everything. Nothing wrong with a relay properly done. It's the heat protection that is the big equalizer here. Glad you figured it out.
