Need help. Searched already. Ignition/spark problems?

I have been trying to fix my TY for about 4 weeks now and it is getting pretty hopeless for me. I have had help from members on the forum and a couple of mechanic freinds.

Problem- My Ty will stutter with tach flutter at just about all rpm's in drive. It misses alot just idling (measured at the tailpipe) and you can aslo see flutter in the tach at idle. If I rev it up in park it will rev smooth up until around 3k and will sputter bigtime at 3k but will rev smoothly at all other rpm's. When I nail the gas quickly, it stutters before reving. If I hti the pedal slowly, it revs fine until around 3k like i said before.

Things I've done to fix- Installed new NGK5's, Black beauts, Conrad cap/rotor, new coil, new fuel filter, set timing a few times(disconnected tan/black wire) ,installed 160amp alt.

If anyone has any ideas or suggestions on what to do next, or has a way of diagnosong the actual problem I have please chime in. Thanks alot and any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks again to Marcelo and his buddy for helping me out with setting the timing :)

No, but I did think of that. I where can I find a replacement ECM? I dont even know if my chip is stock. The truck has no mods , but you never know.

, Black beauts,
new coil,

Did you check the wires w/ an Ohm meter before you put them in? I've had problems w/ the ATR wires before. Also, make sure one of them isn't arcing anywhere...to the downpipe for example.

New stock coil?

Checked for arching and all is good. But I did not check the ohms on the wires. Thats something that I will have to do. Thanks.

~.192 to the coil, ~.8 to the #1 and ~.6 to the rest of the plugs, give or take .1 ohm.

My ATRs keep coming uncrimped at the plug. It's annoying and something you might want to look in to.

If you have people tuning your truck, I am assuming there are other Sy/Tys in your area. If so, see if they will let you try theirs some time. If not, you have to check ebay or the classifieds here.

go with Taylor wires...they are cheapter anyway and seem to work for most people. What plugs are you using? Have you tried the NGK ur5's or 6's yet? that is an option.

The ECM is under the dash passenger side..just remove the plastic panel and its right there with one screw holding it up. pull it down and check the chip.

never mentioned cap/rotor you are using either.

done your fuel filter yet? maybe run some TEC through it and pressurized injecter cleaner?

what are your volts at idle?

The ECM might have two bolts accessible from the speaker grille on the top as well. This means you're lucky and the ECM has probably never been removed before.

O.k. guys. I am running ngkur5's and a conrad cap/rotor . I tried a new fuel filter, installed a fuel pressure guage and all is fine there. I checked the ohms on all the wires and they were fine. Installed a new igniton mudule and........BAM! , the truck returned from the dead! I was so happy when i fired it up cause you could tell the difference instantly. Went on a test drive and all I have to say now is that I NEED BETTER BRAKES  Thanks guys for all the help. Now I can get down to getting it tuned and getting rid of knock. I still need to scan with datamaster to see how everything is looking.

If anyone can point me in the right direction of whom to send my datamaster runs to in order to set me up with a nice chip it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks again for all the help so far guys :) I know this is just the beginning :-?

Phil, I'm glad you got it running good. What is the voltage reading now at idle? was reading 13.4v before. Time to go beat on some mustangs :x

Voltage is a litte better... around 13.8-13.9 at idle. What can I do to get them higher. I already installed a new 160 amp alt. Do I need a better battery?
