Need Ext Wastegate Recommendation...

Ive got 20g compressor/ 12cm2 turbine turbo(is ther a name for this??) and from alittle reading found that its best to use a good regulator setup to control boost. But I have no clue about what Ext wastegate would be good for my application?? Could someone chime in?? Also what is the differance between wastegates with dual and single connections?? Thanks Fern

Sorry guys,
forgot to ask about getting a chip. I need something that will read above 15PSI if I decide to go above that, right?? Is the ultimate still my best choice.

yo,
I like the quality of the HKS external wastegates. HKS has 3 different ones to choose from; mild to wild!

Yeah, i think if you're going to stick with the stock ECM, then the Ultimate 3-bar is your best bet past 15psi. Latest versions are available with LED indicator for knock retard, versions that fit in the ashtray, and my favorite; the 2" ultimate II gauge version .

I think there are a few people on here running the its mini gate from mike lee which have had good results with stock turbo and ultimite chip

if you get an hks all you will need is a standard. that's what i'm using and it seems to be ok for way over 600 horsepower. deltagates are another choick. check the one from turbonetics. there is one made in michigan that supposedly works well and is relatively cheap. tial? something like that. i think there are several guys on the board using it. are you sure your turbo is not set up for an integral/internal one. what kind of downpipe do you have?

Turbo uses the stock downpipe, so I think its just a norMAL INTERGRAL?? I know it came with a stock actuator. Theres different bleed sizes, correct, how do I know which would be best and I didnt get an answer but whats the differance between the single/dual port hookup on the ext wastegates??

Did you have clearance problems with the ITS minigate like Ive read about??? Is it a very close fit on the Xover pipe??

I didn't have any clearence problems what so ever. When they called it the Minigate they wheren't kidding. It's not much bigger than a can of pop. I can't find any pictures of it mounted up right now but here one of it next to can of pop for a size comparison.

EDIT: Here's a link to an album with a bunch of pictures Ian took of his Minigate install.

Minigate owners who purchased in early 2003 and older should check their units.
I started haveing spikes at wot of 3-4 psi and on the low end with a 10 psi spring i couldnt keep the boost low.

Finally found the problem.

the body that the diaphragm sits into is cast iron.

early models had no protective coating to keep the insides of the piston area from corroding. They corrode from normal condensation.

Mine was so bad you could no longer tell it used to be a machined surface. the metal was flaking and peeling.

the other innovative units use a SS body and cap. whereas the minigate only has a SS cap with a cast iron body.

Innovative is taking mine back and exchanging it.

However I have to say using the minigate and their MSBC i had rock solid boost control. I actually bought a 2nd and boost is back to what it was...rock solid straight line.

I would highly recommend this combo to anyone.

Obviously a very good company to deal with. the warratny is 90 days but mine was 9 months old and they took very good care of me.

Reason for my post is so that hopefully anyone else who bought an early model sees this and fixes it before a catastrophic event occurs.

anyone think this should be posted with a warning in the tech articles section kind of like a recall warning or a sticky in this forum?
