Multichip display preview *movie added, second page*

well, again, i have cash in hand if someone follows thru - being an mecp master tech and owning a speedshop does NOT put me in the loop to get one of these done - basically, something like ramchargers' scanmaster.
i won't keep a laptop in the car, so dm, etc doesnt do me any good - i want something permanent.
another thought is a programmable output wire - use to flash a light or buzzer if something goes out of value - ie, mat temps, coolant temps, boost, whatever too high...mostly, please, just use a decent sized display so those of us without eagle eyes have a chance of reading it.

Well, as of now, I have the working version of the standard Ultimate interface.

Question I have. I was thinking about the security feature. What about having it start at the security function by default when you turn the key?

This would seem to make sense being a security function. That way if someone gets in your vehicle, they not only have to have a key, but they need to know it exists in the first place to switch it to the proper program.

Just a thought. But feedback, again, is always welcome.

This would be a cool display location. I have no idea where this ashtray comes from, might be custom.

That's a little hard to read if it were down by the ashtray. I'm thinking it could be either at the instrument cluster or on the visor. I can probably produce both versions with little problem.

I'LL BE PUTTING MINE IN A CENTER A/C VENT, WHERE MY 10-1 DISPLAY IS MOUNTED NOW....

and i have a blitz sbcid for boost control.
would that display be dynamic, where the boost value would increase and decrease as i set it, or is it just outputing what the ultimate tells it to.

All that would take is a pressure transducer hooked up to a 555, which varies pulse width. That frequency is measured by the chip, which translates it from a table inside the chip to a digital reading. It's certainly possible, and that might be an option after I get the first one out.

Since the response here and in emails has been so great. Here's what I'm thinking of versions:

Standalone 3-bar multichip w/display for those without an Ultimate
Ultimate interface display (not 50# chips)
Ultimate 50# chip interface display w/boost measurement interface

They're all entirely possible.

Don't mean to dredge this up, but are you planning on pirating my existing 3 bar programs for the standalone setup??

Nice setup, looks a lot like the LCD version we sold back in the day.

I've been through this with Todd already. There is no circuitry, code, or anything else borrowed from yours or Todd's design. All of this work is done with Craig Moates' adapters and working with PIC codes off www.piclist.com

My intention is not to steal or pirate anyone elses code. Never has been, and will not be in the future.

Todd has conveyed to me that he "owns" the idea of an LCD screen with a multichip. And I have never seen, nor was I around if and when he ever came out with them. I got the idea from a "thermometer" program on PICLIST.com under projects.

Until I'm presented with a C&D order or with evidence of a patent on an LCD design, I'm planning to continue with my development.

I've had a lot of positive feedback so far, and the only thing I've heard so far is that someone had tried something similar in the past and it hadn't come through.

I'm sure Todd has sent you my emails, so feel free to read them Brian if you have any other questions. I'm sure the 6 pages worth that I've written will answer anything you need to know.

Best regards,

Ok, intentions aside, are you planning on selling 3 bar chips, as you stated in the post before ?

Once I finish figuring out the 3-bar setup, possibly. I'm continuing to work with people off DIY_EFI since everyone hordes such information here. And if I come up with it? Who knows.

But my intentions are exactly that. I have not, nor do I plan to use copies of anyone elses code in my EEPROMs or PICs. If anything is eventually sold, it will be of my own work.

And you're doing the same thing Todd did. I'm not worried about it either way. Because what I'm doing is NOT copying your code or anythig of the sort. I have asked questions in the past, and I got no answers. So because of that unwilling attitude, I went elsewhere. I got the answers. While not complete answers, they did send me on my way.

So in all reality, Todd wouldn't be worried, and you wouldn't be worried if the earlier questions would have simply been answered.

As for the future, who knows?? But you have my word that nothing I am coming out with is a copy of your code or of Todd's PIC code. Once I get my 3-bar figured out, I'll even send it to you. I even sent Todd my PIC code to show him that all of this is coming from my own time and work.

But the fact remains, that while incredibly difficult.......nothing is impossible Brian.

Best regards,

Dan, you already have my 3 bar bins... So what is stopping you from going "AHA! I've figured it out. Now I can sell them too."

Todd did the multichip thing several years ago, before Craig came along. He did the LCD before you came along. I did the 3 bar before anyone else did.

You are using Craig's multchip setup, doing your own LCD, and are going to come up with your OWN 3 bar programs, by yourself I'm sure, even though the work is right there in front of you I suppose.

You wanted us to GIVE you all the information before, and it wasn't GIVEN to you, because we thought you'd do EXACTLY WHAT YOU ARE DOING ANYWAYS. (??!!)

I guess we should all just share ALL of our information we work so hard to obtain. It's not enough I share 90% of my data, findings, thoughts on this board and in email, on my webpages, BUT we should give it ALL to you, on a silver platter, I suppose. Todd and I are the bad guys in this matter... ??

While you are searching for more information to use on DIY_EFI, you might do some research into the whole DIY WB 02, and look up Garfield, and the other projects that were scrapped. You may retrieve some interesting findings, mainly that people had their ideas & information stolen way too often, so the bright ones went to private lists, or underground/off list.

Strange to have someone trying to do it right in front of us; I always thought it'd be KB or someone that'd pull that stunt.

Again, I'm not copying anyone's code. I was informed of the 3-bar setup as rescaling the necessary tables that interfaced with the MAP sensor up to the 3 bar equivalent in kPa, around 305, from what I can tell. This of course led to throwing more codes than I care to know. EVEN has left me stranded where my truck has died and not wanted to restart.

And please pull up a post about me ASKING you to hand over code or anything. I've never asked you for anything to just be handed over. But there were questions in regards to the 3-bar setup, and you chose not to answer them. So I found my answers elsewhere. And even on DIY_EFI, you'll not find me asking questions about getting your binaries, and even CREDITED you for figuring this stuff out. What I DID ask for was source code (available on DIY_EFI) and some pinouts of memcal busses. I'm not sure how that equates to asking YOU or anyone else to hand over your work. I'm probably asking the same questions you did when you first got into this.

Your binaries? Sure, I could get them. People have sent me their chips in the mail since all this started. There's not much keeping me from throwing it on the TopMax and dumping it. And you honestly think that if I was doing that that I'd not make posts about my truck damn near blowing up after running 17 psi? And you honestly think that if I am just copying your binaries that I'd ask so many questions??

I know you and Todd have kept tabs on me. That's fine. But the fact remains is that I had NO idea of any LCD display previously out. And if it weren't for PM's and emails blaming me of stealing someone else's brainchild..I'd not be pursuing it. I was approached absolutely with no benefit of the doubt.

And I told Todd, I have no full blown chip that's even remotely close to coming to play. Not even close. And when people started approaching me saying that they wanted the display, I mentioned the standalone unit. This would be a unit that is a display with generic "Program 1, Program 2, etc" and a blank EEPROM on a piggyback carrier. I had NO intentions of trying to resell a 3-bar. But you sweating me like this makes me mention the possiblity to just simply see how much the hammer would fall.

You THINK that no one can figure this out, and you, as well as others belittle people when they come around asking questions about 3-bar, about 40# injectors, etc. I'm just bold enough to find out the answers. I'm not going to be intimidated by the words "That sucks, it can't be done" or "HACK HACK HACK!" or whatever you and the "clique" say whenever anyone comes forward with a question.

See that's the funny part. It's not like this over at the Buick forum (where I got a majority of my questions answered), not like this at the thirdgen, not like this on the Vette forums.

It's that unwillingness that's caused me to do this stuff. If you want to talk about who came out with what first. I brought this up with Todd.

Keylock
pushbutton changing
Security and Valet modes.

Hello??? Jet chips.... Yes yes, I know they don't have one for the SyTy, but they do for f-bodies, and other GM's that carry much of the same concepts. And you (or Todd) took those ideas and found out HOW. If not, it's one hell of a coincidence, but it's the same issue with me and this LCD. I had no awareness of his concepts. And if you and Todd didn't have any awareness of JET chips and those features......then you absolutely have no place getting on me about the LCD's. No one gets on you about that. Hell no. But when someone does the same thing to what's gonig on here and finds out how......people raise a stink.

The likelyhood of me figuring out the 3-bar?? Not very likely. I've already blown up my truck as a result of it, and while I'm not poor, I surely don't have the money to throw around for buying new motors everytime I screw up. Is it worth it?? Not likely. At least not very soon. Now after talking with Craig, the display is a very good possiblity to cross platform with already existing Moates adapters with Vettes, F-bodies, etc.

But again, the LIKELYHOOD of me figuring it out......I don't figure it. But again, I said that anything can be figured out.

Pay attention to this part Brian

In earlier posts, you'll notice that it was in regards to a display. And because of your response....I'm not going to do the 3-bar from this point out other than my own work. This IS out of respect for you. Believe it or not. I could be a dick, just dump your chip, and trade out 3-bars for bags of cookies. But I'm not. And if anything is figured out on my truck, it will stay on my truck. But, I'll continue to answer questions from all the boards if I get

Once I do figure it out though, I do want to send it to you though. But as for this LCD display. I plan to continue. It's not a SyTy specific setup, but rather a DIY kit with a blank EEPROM that I'll custom program the display after they figure out their programs. If they want it to say timing, octane, boost, emissions, whatever.

If you have a problem with that.....tough. That has NOTHING to do with you and has NOTHING to do with Todd.

But Todd mentioned that the reason why you're so unwilling to help anymore is that you're tired of the constant and the same questions. If you're tired of it.......then get out of it. But stop being so hurtful to people that want to figure it out on their own. If you didn't want to spark curiousity, then you should have kept it to your own truck.

But I'm tired of this bickering. I've wasted hours in emails, PMs, and now posts about this. This started positive. But between you and Todd, you turn it negative. The 3-bar talk?? Yeah, that was to open your eyes a little. And if I was running your bins......why is my truck blown up?? I I was running yours....then.....THE ULTIMATE is at fault!!! lol j/k (I know you get a lot of those posts)

I'm tired.

Dan, i think the display is cool, no doubt.

But I read this in the thread:

Since the response here and in emails has been so great. Here's what I'm thinking of versions:

Standalone 3-bar multichip w/display for those without an Ultimate
Ultimate interface display (not 50# chips)
Ultimate 50# chip interface display w/boost measurement interface

That first option sounds a lot like you'd be selling 3 bar chips. I don't claim no one else can do this. I also don't have time to hold someone's hand to figure all of it out on their own, especially the code, and 3 bar. What's my incentive? So you can go sell your own 3 bar stuff? Do you have any idea how much time it took me to develop it? Once I understood it, it still took time. Understanding it took a LOT of time. I don't have an EE or programming background. The only other person willing to do that work on a syty at the time was Dig, and (no offense to dig here) he may have never come to market with something like we did.

But there were questions in regards to the 3-bar setup, and you chose not to answer them.

http://syty.net/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=19256&highlight=3+bar

Did I not answer a question there? I'm not going to give away my time & effort to people I don't know, who just want a free ride.

From that thread:
Now this isn't the ONLY thing that changes. There's something else at 0x3576 that changes, but I haven't figured out what that does yet. Perhaps someone can fill in this gap.

The bit goes 1001 (9 in hex)

to 0101 (5 in hex)

I'm not sure what this translates into yet.

But that bit change registers as a 3-bar chip in Promgrammer, and other than what you can compare in Promgrammer, those are the only "hidden" values not able to be altered through Tunercat or Programmer.

But remember, this isn't the ONLY thing that changes......not even close. But it is the only two things that I can see change that aren't able to be modified by Tunercat and Promgrammer.

Where'd ya get that data? Just made it up ?

And please pull up a post about me ASKING you to hand over code or anything. I've never asked you for anything to just be handed over. But there were questions in regards to the 3-bar setup, and you chose not to answer them.

sorry this confuses the hell out of me.

Dan says: I didn't want help.

Then he says: You chose not to help though. ??

Is there any reason I am supposed to help every person understand the 3 bar, so they can just take the info and run ??

Go ask LS1 Edit guys if they'll give up the hardware & software specs for their info. Go ask FAST if you can have their disassembled software. Go ask Accel if you can have their schematics & software for nothing. Does any of this make sense to you??

You can whine and play the victim all you want. If I thought someone in my own community would be duping my work, i would have never gone through the work to make the 3 bar stuff function & available for anyone.

Sorry, any way you put it, I think you are the one being disrespectful here. I guess you expect me to watch you reap benefits of my work, believing you'd go through the same work I went through disassembling the code, when you have the actual bin right in front of you. It's much easier to work it backwards than to discern the changes that need to be done when you have no guide. You've already begun to work it out backwards from my changes, so don't call BS here.

Also, you want to say there are cliques of people on here that stick together; I'd rather call it a small community of which many people appreciate and respect the time we've put into this project.

Go see if Nolan will pass out Tony's 10 second calibration..
See if Brian Hartman will divulge all of his parts & secrets & sources for his tranny parts...
Ask Dig for copies of his chip programs...
Ask Tunercat for free copies of their software...

ack... do what you're gonna do.... not like i can actually do anything about it. I'll probably be *expected* to give you more help with the chip stuff later.
