Mass and New England SyTy guys

I am trying to guage interest. A buddy and I are interested in opening a business for custom builds and repairs for musclecars/hot rods in the southern mass/New England area. We would purchase a Dynojet AWD dyno since there seems to be none in New England. We are both experienced in custom tuning and buildups (him more than me). I would like to hear honest opinions on this idea. I would like to be a place for SyTys and other hot rods/muscle cars in the mass/new england area. I have the means to finance such an operation and need to make a career change before I go postal. All opinions appreciated, for and against.

I think it would be a great idea. The only problem is this area. I have been in the car customizing buisness around this area for the last ten years or so, and a auto tech before that. The people around here are just funny with how their money is spent. Most are cheap and want it all for nothing. I am not saying that it wouldn't work, most likely it would as there is no shop like it around.
You know how us sy/ty guys are most work on their own trucks. The hot rod aspect, you would have to deal with factory five, but you could become an authorized builder for them. But as I am sure you know the hot rod sceene to build a one off is expensive and most that can afford that goto the names they know. Muscle cars are the same. There are a coupl of custom shops that have made a name for themselves the last few years, one is denise mcpherson cumstoms, maybe check him out and see how he is doing. But if you want a change of careers then I say go for it,

I will stop by to check it out and get some dynos runs done as I have a couple of turbo vehicles, and support a local business and fellow sy/ty'ers

tough buisness to break into. probably only a dozen or soo sytys in the area...we would be a very small segment of what your buiss.would need to get over. but a full service engine builder/tuner would be a killer kind of career change as far as that goes. getting your name out there & building a reputation takes alot of time & effort!
id be in for a few more local syty meets a season!
good luck

I know I'd like to see it... It was no fun having most of the support for these trucks out west when I was rebuilding mine... and I still want to know what kind of HP I'm getting to the wheels

85 bucks for 3 baseline pulls is pretty reasonable.

If you could TUNE sy/ty's w/ an awd dyno I guarantee you I would bring you some business. Theres plenty of people here in NY looking for someone that has experience tuning these trucks ( and the tools to do it with).

I am in the process of determining location and securing funding to go forward. I figure about a year to year and a half before I can make a serious go at it.
