making the right choice?

HI, I'll try to make my story short. I've been around the Turbo Buick world since early 1986 and bought two new from dealer T-Types - one '86 and one '87. I parked the '87 and its still parked with 649 miles. Then I bought a pair of used T-Types and got the bug when the Syclone was announced. I ordered one and I was there to get it off the truck - number 42. I took it to a few shows and really didn't need it so I parked it too. It has a little over 800 Miles. well for the past 2 years I have been building two motors for the used T-Types and gave the third T-Type to the oldest son. Because the rebuilds are taking so long I bought a '92 Lesabre with a lot of luxury and OK miles to get me around. Second son now needs a full time car and I'm thinking about giving the Lesabre to him.

the question: I am the closest I have ever been in pulling out the Syclone and using it for a daily driver. It will probably be another 4-5 months before I get the first T-Type back from rebuild. It will have a lot of good - go-fast parts and be alot of fun but I just really think its time to enjoy the Syclone instead of watching it get dusty. The other option is to pick up another used OK car for a few thousand $ and use that during the wait for the T-Types. I sometimes think it IS a sickness to have these two vehicles just locked away and not being used. I know there are guys out there who absolutely think cars should be driven only. But I thought it would be neat to have brand new 20 or 30 year old vehicle at some time in the future. Especially when they don't make anything like them anymore. So I thought I would bear my soul here and just take feedback. My daugher sitting next to me justr asked if I am getting flustered - she can hear my sighs as I type this note.

I'm not sure why I am choosing the Syclone to pull out before the '87 T-Type either. It just seems like the Syclone would be the right choice if one of them must come out. So if you have advice without too much stuff about "the kind of idiot I am" please post it.

Even though she hasn't been driven she has been loved as a child  and I want to make sure I am making the right choice for my baby!!! thanks.

Why wait another 10 or 20 year to drive it, when you don't know what tomorrow brings. :2cents:

i'm for driving it, but not daily driving it!

Bill -

Im sure you will get many opinions here....

IMHO, leave the Sy alone and keep it as is with a little over 800 miles. You know cars, so theres no need to tell you the chance you take by starting to drive it after it has been sitting for so long... hell, its not even broken in yet on the motor!

Id be more scared of dailying a low mileage, never driven truck than a highly modifed one.

Seems the serious under 1000 mile trucks are becoming few and far between. Dont take yours off the list.

But then again, I have 2 trucks.... one of them is a rare color and I drive the piss out of it.

Im not selling either, and Im damn sure not going to save the miles for anyone else to enjoy.

But Id honestly say, if I had a mint low mile truck, it would be a trophy and nothing else.

no you don't.

I think the only reason you posted this was to hear us tell you to keep it stored. You know what we were going to post already...

IMO I wouldn't daily drive an 800 mile Syclone. That would hurt.

There's no problem driving a low mile car around for stuff like cruising on sunny days, taking it to shows, to the track, get-togethers, etc... You should keep the truck "ultra low-miles". It's pretty difficult to find such a low mile, mint, preserved Syclone like you have. Rarest of the rare.

If you really want a Sy as a daily driver, maybe you should get one that's got quite a bit of mileage on it already. You can pick up a good looking Sy with higher mileage for $6-$9k easily.

To sum up: I think you should keep the Sy "low miles". You have been sighing for a reason you know? You've basically got a Syclone that's been sitting in a time capsule.

There's a lot of us on here who'd love to see pics of it or come check it out in person.

I say SELL it... to ME. I need one to go with my 5,000 mile Ty. I'll drive down and trailer it home over the weekend. Let me know

it's either going to get driven BY ME or stay put in the garage. But for those that don't think I am serious I just pulled out the last registration it had from 1995, the insurance card and the title and plan to get the tags renewed tomorrow. It was tagged ROBOTRK and I hope I can still keep that but it hasn't been registered or inspected (by State) since 1995 and tomorrow I am going to begin the process that allows me to put it on the highway ...again.

really sighing but those - "you only live once" guys are starting to get through to me. but I will die if I take it out and someone hits me - so I am still looking at a couple '90s Caddys on EBAY. I guess I am just one of those liberal "flip-flops" when it comes to this decision. but thanks for the feedback

If you want a daily driven Sy then why not just buy one for 9K and keep that one off te road and away from stupid drivers. If you get the itch to drive it, then take it to a car show for others to enjoy as well. It sounds dumb but I still get kinda mad at myself for making a DD outta my stock Sy with 35K miles, now it's almost to 40K.

It would be crazy to drive it now after you've kept at 800 miles this long. All you will do by driving it is lower it's value.

I would keep it stored... like others have said already low low milage sytys are becoming extremly rare.

Why introduce that truck to salt, road grime, idiot drivers and bad weather? when you've taken all this time already to keep it from all those factors and elements.

Syclones are rare, especially low mile ones. With only 2998 made, it really isn't wise to drive one with 800 miles. Wreckless people create door dings, salt corrodes, rock chips, wreckless drivers.

I just wouldn't take the chance. You can't replace a 800 mile Syclone very easily.

IMO I wouldn't daily drive a 800 mile Sy. I would keep the ultra low mileage Sy for driving to and from cars show or meets.

Just out of curiousity how many miles would you normally drive in those months.
