lots of minor questions (heater hose, heat exchanger, etc.)

First up, can I re-route my heater hoses through the fender? Just trying to clean up the engine bay a bit. Obviously, I'd have to get longer hoses, but is there anything else I'm not thinking of? Like something in the way, or not enough room?

Also, a very smart friend took a look at the heat exchanger under the bumper, and suggested I experiment and try using an f-body or even S-10 A/C condenser mounted in front of the radiator with an upgraded pump to make a more efficient IC setup. People usually scoff at his ideas, but he's got the magic touch when it comes to making odd ideas actually work. Any reason I shouldn't give this a try?

Now to track down that damn power steering fluid leak. Are those rubber lines? I had a serpentine belt come apart and take out my hard vacum line to my wastegate solenoid and I'm wondering if it also could have cut a power steering line or something since the leak started right afterwards.

Speaking of which, where can I get that hard vacum line from? Any auto parts store? I noticed it was bent, so I didn't know if I could replace it with flexible vacum hose, or if I had to get a specific part # from GM.

Thanks, as always!

I routed my heater hoses from the upper cooler against firewall, in back of upper plenum, betweenbrake master-vacuum booster, infront-between washer fluid container, into fender and down way below oil filter, down near radiator drain.
Lotta people run an extra heat exchanger infront of radiator...matter of preference, etc...
Dunno about running that hard vacuum line...again. I had problems with the rubber elbows which the line slides into...cracking. I replaced all mine(and I mean ALL of my vacuum lines not just the turbo's ones) with the awesome kit from Mr. SyTyArchives(Ian Turgeon). I can't confirm if he's still making these kits though. Or just buy a bunch of vac. line(2 different sizes I believe, 5/32 and ? though metric might fit better?) and start replacing 'em. HTH

Here throw this in back for an aux cooler and you'll be all set...

Lots more work to get your IC lines routed through the passenger fenderwell. It requires more turns, so you need pre-formed 90's , a couple 180's ,and lots of hose clamps. It just a matter of preference, and not kinking the lines.

You can get a vacuum kit with enough to do all your lines from summit.

Use one of these for a heater exchanger:

The AC condensor lines are way too small, will flow hardly any fluid and will burn up your cac pump. You need the above pic or a heater core. Anything with 3/4" or 5/8" inlet and outlets.
A 3/8" or 5/16" line won't cut it.
Just make sure you mount it off of the AC condensor a little or it will conduct some serious heat into your IC system when running the AC.

OKay... what the hell is that thing you linked from the Jegs site? I'd like some more information to satisfy my curiousity. :)

Any links to actual info?

The vacum hose kit from summit looks good. I'll be ordering that when I order myself a pair of torsion bar mounts. Which reminds me, what's the part number for the preferrable Moog torsion bar mount?

Thanks!

This link has the info on the ATR setup.
By buying the heat exchanger from Jegs, you can make your own setup much less expensively. They have 3 tube units and 4 tube units. The other thing you will need is a good CAC pump. Some people do fine with the stockers.
This type unit will require trimming of the inside of the hood latch support for clearance.
The engine fan pull through this constantly so you get cooling even when sitting still.
