Thats the problem, I need a more specific instruction on how the memcal pins are numbered. I don't want to soder the wrong pins!
Thanks though.

I have tried searching here and diyefi, and still can't find the answer.
I am hoping to hear from someone that has made the knock detector.

Hey, I wrote those instructions! :)

Ok, look at the thing on the chitownsyty.com site. See the 4049U chip? There's a little dimple drawn at one end of the chip. Here's how the numbering convention always is. If you take the pin that is just counter clockwise from the dimple (as you go around the perimeter of the chip) that will be pin 1. Keep counting around the chip as you go counterclockwise.

Thus, with the 4049U chip, it will be like this:

Pin 1: goes to +12 volts
Pin 2: LED
Pin 3: Goes to pin #33 of ESC
Pin 8: Goes to ground and other side of LED

Hopefully that helps you understand the numbering convention of how chips are numbered. Now, let's talk about that ESC chip.

If we call it a 34 pin chip, then the pin that is just counterclockwise from the dimple will be pin 1. The pin that is just clockwise from the dimple is pin 34. Thus, pin 34 is the very end pin. Pin 33 is the pin just clockwise of Pin 34.

Note that the ESC thingy (that we are calling a chip) doesn't have a dimple. So I noted that we are going to call the end nearest the prom the "dimple end".

I hope those instructions help. Let me know if you still questions about it.

Opie, smeagol!!!

Opie, smeagol!!!

Thank you guy's. It is getting closer to Track time, and i was searching the web all night trying to find more detailed info.

I migt have it now, try again when I get home.

Last couple of questions:
On the memcal, the goop covered board has like 6 pins, but you are counting the slots (where the goop covered board has no pins)?

Also, I have the ultimate, where did you mount the 4049U chip?

Thought I was going to go blind trying to look under the ESC and find a dimple on the smaller chips underneath.

Thanks
You guy's really need a 1-900 number for your time.

I'm a visual learner, and I don't like to monkey with things until I have a decent idea what I'm doing. Anyone got any pics of the ESC "chip" and MEMCAL/ECM/whatever taken apart, so I can get an idea of what I'll be looking for when I get in there?

Yes, you're exactly right.

Well, mine is just kinda left hanging. There's wires coming off of it and a piece of electrical tape wrapped around it, and then it's just under the dash, not in anything.
