Knock Retard

Re: Knock Retard

Now that it has stopped raining out, I did some testing this weekend with EGR block off and New Injectors, It still has knock retard issues, the new injectors didn't fix my issue  I get knock retard pretty much as soon as I hit WOT. The truck is still on the rich side as the 02 were high 900, I will have to back down the fuel some, but its definately not going lean. I am still not convinced my truck pulls timing past 0 degree, but it said I was pulling 18 degree plus my timing is already retarded 8-10 degree :shocked!: At the very least, its pulling 20 degrees of timing.

I also aparently have an overboost issue with cold the weather. I have my boost set for 16psi in the ultiamte chip type program I am running and I easily hit 18psi before I backed off the gas. I disconnected the boost solenoid, so that I have base boost and I hit 16psi easily and I think it would have crept up to 17 or 18 psi. In the warm weather, I hit 13-14psi easily with it creeping to 16psi. So I will have to deal with that now...

I have a modified intake and a set Vortec Heads (Which I sliced my hand read good on yesterday and bled for 2 hours.) I think it might be time to pull the top end of the motor apart.

you catch it on that chamfered edge? That thing was damn sharp

Re: Knock Retard

Dave,

I saw a problem with an ultimate chip carrier the other day that caused a lot of knock counts. We burned the binary to the memcal, removed the carrier, and the problem was solved. Of course, this was false knock.

900mV isn't necessarily rich at WOT. I would add fuel if my O2 sensor showed 900mV at WOT and I had knock retard. The wideband should help you out a bunch.

I caught it on the cylinder head while removing the screw in studs. I basically broke the stud free with my right hand and my left hand got caught in the way and jammed between the ratchet and gasket surface slicing three fingers. One of the cuts could have been stiched together, but I didn't want to wait hours in the ER. My finger was aching last light and kept waking me up.

I am currently using one of Moates adapters, I have tried different ultimates carriers with the same issue. I have 980mV+, so I consider that rich.

Re: Knock Retard

What happens if you put stock injectors, stock MEMCAL, and 2-BAR map sensor in? Does it run correctly? The reason I ask is because my truck has run like ass for the past week since I got it going again with the new build. I have the latest Ultimate 50# chip for stock motor and 50# injectors. AFR would show 14.7 when I first started the truck, then go down to 11.1 or so after a few seconds and stay there. When I go WOT, the AFR goes lean. Replaced the AFPR and Walbro with new ones this weekend - made no difference - and decided the Ultimate must be the issue.

Pulled the Ultimate, put stock injectors back in, and 2 bar-MAP. Trucks runs perfectly now, with AFR at 14.6-14.7 at idle like it should be. I'm working on getting the 50# chip thing sorted out, but the problem was definitely not mechanical. Going back to basics would be a good test. Keep us posted.

I was thinking about that today, but I don't have that option right now because I would need a new set of stock injectors. My stock injectors stopped working properly this past winter while in storage (I think because I had a bunch of Xylene in the fuel). I know stock injectors aren't that expensive, but my wife was laid off 3 weeks ago, I really don't want to be spending money on stock injectors. Anyone want to donate stock injectors for testing? I will return them...

Re: Knock Retard

I replaced my originals with new stock injectors about a year ago. I found a guy who had 6 NOS ones and he sold them to me for $150. I'd lend you mine, but I just put them back in the truck yesterday. You can swap them in about 30 minutes without doing anything but removing the 4 bolts that hold the fuel rail on and unsnapping the injector harnesses. Putting a light coat of motor oil on the o-rings makes reinstalling them easy too. Maybe someone in here can let you borrow some used stock injectors...let us know what you find.
