Just made my own DM cable

Well, I made the adapter with a MAX232, as like on the TechEdge site. There was one simple mod where I needed to bring pin 10 to ground through a resistor (10k), and then it worked.

All together, it was about $12 in part, but I could have kept it around $10 if I didn't go to damned RadioShack, but I got the wrong gender DB9 connector for the project box.

Hooked it up tonight and did a run. Works really well. Took about 30 minutes to assemble once I got everything situated.

I know a few of you were wondering if these worked. Well, I can vouch that it does.

Note: This DOES take Vcc off the serial port (two pins through 1N914 diodes), and does not require an external 12V source.

do you have a link to that? I want to make one myself since I finally have time when I am not actually repairing my truck for a change to sit down for a litle soldering project. :)

Sure, it's this one. However the only changes I had to make was run pin 10 to ground through a 10k resistor to keep it from floating. You only use the data pin "M" and ground off the ALDL. I just hardwired it to my ALDL port behind the plug and put the box in my glove box.

Thank you, and that is a great idea with hardwiring and hiding it in the glovebox. I was thinking about building something to hold and hide the pocket romulator. Hmmmm, I should have a busy winter with the truck. :) Thanks again.
