Just Curious

Just a silly question. After I am done driving my truck and I put the truck in Park, it seems to idle very high for a while. It shoots up to about 1200-1300 and idles there before finally starting to make its way down to like 1000-900 rpm or so.

I take it that this is not normal. What could this be? I am assuming a vacuum leak?, I replaced what I thought was all of the lines recently. I also think I have that dreaded passenger side exhaust manifold crack. Wonder if that could cause it??

Re: Just Curious

I had a problem with high idle, was caused by the idle motor being out of calibration... forget how to reset that, you have to start the truck with two of the ecm port terminals on the steering column connected but I can't remember which ones

Re: Just Curious

Mine has the same problem too. I reset the I.A.C valve. Turn the key on, engine off, and bridge the A and B terminals together. They are the top, last two term. on the ALDL connector. Open the hood and you should hear alittle rattle from the IAC[seating itself]. shut the switch off and pull out the paper clip. start it up, and hopefully the idle will settle down. sometimes I will pull the ecm fuses prior to start up to clear out the prev. info. I am not sure this is the best method use, but it workes for me!.....sometimes.
