got the JS Designs/Moroso solid motor mounts put in, and decided to have the shop put in my ZQ8 steering box, with new Moog idler and pitman arms while they're at it...
first of all, observations before/after.
it feels soooo good to not worry about motor mounts anymore (this is the second time they have broken in 6 months)
the truck shakes when you start the engine and sometimes under throttle. this is very cool, if you like that "old muscle car" feel. I do.
I had severe driveline vibration before (suspect propshaft or crossmember) and the vibration is much less with the new mounts... does this imply anything particular as the source?
there is some vibration noticable inside, mostly in the form of hearing things rattle/resonate. it sounds as if the truck itself resonates ~1000 rpm. I am trying to track down all the rattles and noises inside my ty right now, and being able to vibrate while stopped actually helps alot with this.
the bottom of the seat vibrates, kind of like one of those brookstone chairs or a motorcycle, but imagine only 25% of that.
the steering components made a huge difference in how the truck drives, it feels as if it is on rails now. also, if you like to drive your truck with only one hand on the steering wheel like me, it is very easy now, even u-turns. don't need 2 hands on it at all. there is still a (smaller) dead spot in the center, however. the truck is so much more fun to drive now with this.
all in all I am very pleased with these mods so far. it cost me over $600 in labor alone. I know the mounts are a horrible job -- was this a fair price?
