JE or SRP pistons??? ---

I use SRP pistons in my lt1 for nitrous, but was sorta leaning for the JE pistons for the SY buid ( 450hp+). What are your opinions? ---

Re: JE or SRP pistons??? ---

Seems like JE is the way to go for us.... higher boost without skirt damage :)

EDIT: The only thing is RPM says go for the SRP for street builds, and JE for race builds.....but mine is going to be a street build with 20-25psi boost.....still go for the JE? ---

Re: JE or SRP pistons??? ---

So I have read a post here & there about JE pistons causing knock issues. Can anyone shed some light on this???

SRP is JE's "budget" line.

The knock you might have heard is probably due to the increased piston clearance forged piston manufactures suggest.

JE Turbo duty and don't look back.

If its in your budget that is. ;)

There were lots of posts way back when about noisy TRWs.

Re: JE or SRP pistons??? ---

SRPs don't like much boost or much nitrous. JE would be the better choice of the two.

I have Diamonds in my turbo car.

Mike from RPM told me that if you stay under 21psi the SRP are ok, but anything above that NEEDS the JEs'

JE for sure for 21+psi

Re: JE or SRP pistons??? ---

i'm going to be running SRP's in my daily driver typhoon build. 66mm turbo, 60# injectors, alky tune. I hope to make a reliable 500hp in street trim.

I always recommend SRPs to guys who want a simple rebuild and have future plans for some bolt ons (turbo, chip, intercooler, etc) Anyone who suggests custom tuning, alky injection or race gas with 20psi i always suggest the JE. Just keep in mind with JE we typically run more ring end gap, more sidewall clearance, loosen bearing clearances, etc knowing the motor will bang around. You need to really look at the whole equation, not just how much boost.. Cylinder head flow, turbo cfm, max rpm, camshaft specs, projected power, miles to be driven, etc.

I wouldn't rate the boost number as a factor whether or not to run one piston over the other. Either one will fail with poor tuning or detonation.
