WHAT IS EVERYONE USING TO COVER THE INTERCOOLER FROM HEAT? IS IT JUST THE STANDARD PEP BOYS HEAT SHIELDING OR IS THERE SOMETHING BETTER?

Used some reflective mat made by thermotec (sp?). Spent about 6hrs cutting it and wrapping the upper IC with it. Put a double layer on the bottom for extra insulation from the DP. Its held on with 3M weather strip adhesive. Wrapped the rubber IC lines in their hose covering too..

Wrapped the DP with the typical header wrap. Didnt do any before/after IAT comparison but the water in the IC stays cold to the touch now where as it fealt warm after a few WOT blasts with the above stuff uncovered.

Wrapped the turbo to IC pipe too (double layer).

Sorry guys, don have any specific #s to rattle off. It looks racey though. :grin:

I used a starter shield kit. It's got enough reflective material to cover the entire intercooler, and there are some metal straps to hold it on there. I cut a template for the inlets and outlets, and they help locate the sheet to keep it from falling off. I've never had an issue with that and the two metal straps, and it keeps the thing quite cool.

I checked Summit. They sell a turbo and downpipe universal insulating kit. It looks like it comes with a lot of material. May be worth checking out.

On the ThermoTec stuff, you can get that with an adhesive coated backside. Makes installation a lot easier. Then use that foil home insulation tape to cover all of the joints.

Yep had this on mine, fairly easy and looked VERY clean. I'm sure Ian can comment on this too.

Yep, I used the "self stick" 2" wide stuff on the turbo to IC pipe and my homemade cold air thingy pipes. Works fine (well, at least its still stuck on there)..

Keith and Charles had a pretty good template to make them, I dont know exactly how we could reproduce that for you guys to make. The self sticking stuff worked great on application after it was cut right, you can even remove and re-install a small area if you mess up early on. Could work, but who knows
