IAT sensor location

Has anyone changed the location of the IAT sensor, to closer to the air filter to get a denser reading ?

Someone had told me to drill a hole in my custom intake tube and retrofit my IAT sensor in it to give the truck a colder air temp reading - making it run rich ?

Has Anyone else done this ?

Is this a worth wild mod ?

Any help is appreciated

1. This is a good strategy for NA cars, but the engine needs to know approximately the temp after the turbo. Since it can varry by 100+ degrees from ambient, the fueling will be all screwed up

2. If it's a richer tune you're after, just get an AFPR and turn your FP up a few pounds

Re: IAT sensor location

thanks

so this is a bad idea ???

I figured you want the computer to read the temp of the boost in the plentum

Re: IAT sensor location

Turbo Buick's had the IAT located in inlet to the turbo. When we went to the FAST system it was recomended to us to re-locate the IAT to the upper plenum so we could (as stated above) get a more accurate reading of the actual temp going into the engine. You can account for fuel better if you know the air temp entering the combustion chamber as close as possible and the plenum is the last stop where we can get a decent reading.
Keep it where it's at. Good spot from the factory.

yes, I would say so. the fueling needs to be based on the air temp that is actually entering the engine. Part of the reason the NA guys do this is that often the temp sensor gets heat soaked by the component's it is near and reads higher than it should. Our intake air is really that hot.

On another note, if you wanted to try it just unscrew it, plug the hole and leave it hanging, then try it that way
