I NEED SOME MAJOR HELP HERE!!

driving my ty down the road and it died on me. pulled it over and tried to start it and it wouldnt start. so i pop the hood and disconect my msd box and hooked up the stock ignition thinking that might be the problem, and it still wouldnt start. i replaced the the whole distributor with and msd distributor, new atr plug wires, plugs, new msd coil, and still nothing. so i thought my clifford alarm could possibly be the reason i didnt have any spark because of the ignition kill. the stereo place had my truck for a day and called me and said this. " well i traced all my wires and the alarm and all of it was fine. but then i called my mechanic buddy of mine, he came buy and unplugged the msd and it started right up." then he told me it was gonna cost me 120 dollars!! no it runs but it runs like crap. i know i need to adjust my timing from when i put in the new distrubutor but my at idle my tach is jumping all over the place and i dont think that this is just timing related. im looking for anyones suggestions or help on this because im just about out of ideas on this damn thing. thanks in advance. :evil:

Tech jump or dance it 99.9999999999999999999999999 % of the time ignition related. I would try a set of NGK's and new wires. Could be a bad wire.

seriously, you said tach dance, I bet you have one of the following

a- bad wire
b- burned wire (which would be bad, by definition I suppose)
c- plug wire not pushed on all the way, at cap or plug

though it could also be another basic simple issue - cap not on properly, bad wires to coil, bad ignition module, etc.

In trying to fix your problem, you ended up changing 100 things... this is not good. If you would have done one thing at a time, you would have an easier time.

You have to deal with proven good components; now you have a myriad of variables to sort out, a ton of possibilities.

well i pretty much just replaced all my ignition parts with msd stuff. im hoping its just my timing is messed up and when i set it back to 0* it will be alright. it was just the fact that it was fine and i was driving it and then it just TOTALLY died.

I agree with smeagol, because I have been there before, and it had to do with my MSD coil, well not really the brand but the wires to it.

my point is that you just replaced everything, so there is a good chance that one of those things caused the problem, either a bad part, or bad installation, got me?

Did the truck run good after all these parts were installed?

It reads:

1- my truck was running
2- my truck died
3- i replace everything
4- it runs, and i have problems

So the parts are still questionable is the conclusion.

i had all the ignition parts on already and it ran great. trying to fix my problem i replaced the whole distributor, and thats the only part i replaced. i was checking my timing last night and it is way retarded so i think i found my problem. also my msd 6A box died for some reason now. so thats great its only about 2 months old.

Dump the POS MSD and try Mallory. I had the same problem with a 6A it was fine then quit then was fine and I replaced part after part never supecting the BRAND NEW box.

Got a Mallory,.....two years no problems.

(BTW not on my TY.)
