i just got the sy last month. after talking to the latest owner, he said there was a hypertech chip in it and he only ran 110 octane with it. sounds a little far fetched. but other than this chip and the susp. drop the truck is stock. anyway i have since removed the chip... so i was wandering if anyone could elaborate on the 'worthlessness' of this engine management by hypertech. what activities of the ECM does it actually override or trick. and what may be the pro and cons of reinstalling it.

Hypertechs are known to reduce the ability of the ECM to pull the timing in the event of detonation.

That's bad, leads to bent rods, broken pistons and dead motors.

As stated above lose the hypertech piggyback and reinstall the stock chip.

When I first got my truck, it was overboosting bad. Turned out to be a "hypercrap" chip in my ECM when I pulled it on a whim. Had the Ultimate chip in ever since and haven't had a problem as long as I kept everything in good tune which is manditory if you run an Ultimate.

The "gains" if any, aren't worth the risk IMHO. File thirteen that POS...

Don't throw the chip and piggyback away though, just take it out of the truck.

You can use that piggyback for a custom burned chip someday or sell it for that use.

yeah that was the first thing i did when i got the truck home(take the chip out). thank for the confirmation on the piece of hypercrap. ive installed hypertech devices in other peoples autos before and the company has always been 'poop' in my book.

also, to add to the retardedness of the mods from the previous owner...
custom exhaust(get this): stock from the turbo to the cat then 2-1/2" splitter into dual 3" resonators into 3" dual exhaust to 4" echo tips. great vato set up not to hot for turbo.

anyway enough of me baggin on my own truck. i just wanted to share that with you guys.
