How do I get this bolt out..??!!

Its the 9/16 bolt on the bell housing more toward the driver side.

Its too close to the firewal to get a socket on, and the only way I can forsee the bolt coming off is with a pipe for leverage.

Any tips or tricks??

Also.. the downpipe bracket thats about an inch or so back from the firewall. Had problems reaching/getting leverage on the biotch also. :evil:

Well im assuming your attempting to take you trans out??

I get all the bolts out from under the truck with a long extention and a swivel with a deep socket after the crossmember has been removed.

the long extension is a life saver not to mention a knuckle saver.

We're actually just pulling the motor at this point.

I'll have to check on some new tools tomorrow. Maybe what I have just wasn't long enough or versatile enough.

hummmmmmmm, you have the upper intake and all the out correct??

I know Ed Hess made a post about this back when he was removing his engine. I know it can be done, I just haven't had to do it personally, I always seem to pull my trans first :lol: makes things so much easier

The only other tool I could suggest is a set of the ratcheting combination wrenches, like the Gear Wrench or whatever Sears sells. Those things work great in tight areas like that. I wish I could be of more help.

yea i am trying to think for ya but that bolt is not exposed until you unbolt the t case and then let the tranny hang down. I think you could maybe get it if you pull the upper intake off and the distributer???

upper intake is off along w/ distrib... I dug thru the garage and came up with a pipe... The more I think about it, leverage is the only thing thats going to work.

I just hate doing it that way because if its strips, then the tranny Definately has to come off. At this point, I'd like to keep it on.

just use an open ended wrench while sitting on top of the engine and reaching down.

you don't need no stinkin pipe. What are you doing w/ the pipe anyway? Put the pipe down and slowly step away from the truck.

I agree with Mike. Open ended wrench is the best to use. I think this is the same bolt me and Todd had a hard time with on his truck. I sat on top of his engine to get to it. Very Very hard to get to. Cut the clips that hold the wires in place so you can move them out of your way.

Got back from Saginaw, MI early this evening after scoring a set of Z28 rims (15 X 7's) for my S10 for only $75 . Otherwise I would have helped you guys have "fun" today :wink: .

Yeah, that one bolt that holds the transfercase brace on (long ass bolt) can be a real PITA :evil: . A wrench that I had that was *just* short enough to fit up there was my saving grace. Got it on the head of the bolt and lifted all 150 pounds of myself off the garage floor and it finally broke loose...

If it ain't broke, fix it till it is. - Hey I like that - my Philosophy exactly - so I work on cars my whole life and they never run.

There's a couple of ways to get that bolt. Those curved slightly offset box wrenches can help from the top. And if U go from below alot of Wobble extensions can give U the flexibility to get in this tight spot. These wobbles were a great invention ! It helps to have every tool known to Man to do this shit.

And of course dropping the trans rear mount makes it much easier, as someone mentioned.

angle head ratchet wrenches. they work reat for any small spot. when i pulled just the motor out i just used an open wrench to get the bolts out. this is before i got the ratchet wrenches
