I was able to get mine open with a screw driver. I found it a lot easier to do when looking at another truck latch assembly to figure out what you need to do.

cool, now thiefs know how to pop the hood.should PM this kind of info.

you have to take the front cover off to even do what I suggested..

there are so many EASY ways to break into any car/truck..

a post here, isn't going to help them

heck, i've popped hoods using a pen before. just push on the spring loop in between the hood and grill.
if you want to prevent this from happening, you can fabricate a little plate to put in front of the cable and spring loop.

there's a commercial product available; i use them on both mine.
i think it is pop-n-lock that makes it; nice deal, and no freakin way yer gettin the hood open with one in place, so do NOT lose the key.
and i agree, this shit shouldnt be posted publicly - plenty of *them* dont know, and why be stupid and make life simple for maggots.
a mod should delete this whole thread, really.

Anyone got a guide on how to replace the cable specifically the part that goes thru the firewall do you have to take off the brake booster?

You don't have to take anything off. I've done it years ago and know I didn't have to remove the booster or anything. You should be able to pull the old cable through the firewall into the cab, then thread the new cable from the cab side through the firewall to the engine compartment. I remember it was a bitch to do.

Re: Hood release cable broken

I opened the hood on the S-15 using a coat hanger once, and it worked well. Also broke into the trunk of a Tercel that belongs to a girl at my school using a filler rod for welding. Missing Toyota emblem = opening
