HID Projector headlights

The headlights look retarded. I would only use those if you swap to a S10 front end and install a phantom grill to hide them.

I am just unable to understand why anyone would spend that kind of money on headlights. There are so many other mods that I could do with that kind of cash. Maybe it's just me.

Wow. That will leave a big dent in yor wallet.Probably ends up using more energy to power them too.

The next upgrade is a 500 amp Alternator for power.

On a side note...........

I have a McCulloch set that went to my 2000 Sierra. One on the ballast or maybe the transformer is bad but if someone wants it I'll give it to them minus shipping.

HIDs uses less power!

Most HID are 35W at start they can draw up to 10A then when fully power up draw only 3A which is less than the standard 55W Halogen bulb.

http://www.hidfoglight.com/productsAndServices/retro/hidHeadLightOrderPage.html

There is 50W Bi-Xenon H4 that offers Xenon on both low and high beam.

http://www.hidfoglight.com/productsAndServices/retro50/reto50.html

I have the 50W HID Bi-Xenon H4 and it is brighter than the 35W kit but the cut-off lines aren't as sharp as the Lexus IS350 but again I am retro fit this on to a vehicle that never came with HIDs. The HID draw 15A at start then go down to 5A.

If you place an inductive clamp behind the headlight wires you will see the stock 55/60W Halogen bulbs draw more current.

The 50W 4300K H4 Bi-Xenon offers the most light with 4800 lm. Anything above 6000K seem to offer less light more of blue colour to purple.

Does anyone know if the 50W H3 HID will fit into the Blazer driving light.?
I think the HID maybe too long to fit into the lens housing as the depth is only 1.625 before it touches the lens. Most HID are 47mm unless I find a shorter one.

I have it wired so the foglight says on when high beam is turn on through a separate relay.

Once you leave Vancouver it is really dark at 5am in the winter on the way to Whistler and the Sy wasn't meant for off roading.

Re: HID Projector headlights

You can purchase HID kits on Ebay for $120.00-$200.00 range.
And also buy the head light housings to hold the HID bulbs.

The above website says if you do that there will be glare to oncoming drivers.

I have a friend in a Jeep with the APC plastic cheap housing with the reflector in the back with 35W 8000K H4 Hi/Lo and he has way more glare. This is due to housing.

We try the HID with Bosch housing 35W 6000K H4 Hi/Lo there was some glare but no where the amount the HID has in the APC housing.

The combination of the housing and high of Jeep has people flashing him.

He likes the look of the open lens so he bought the plastict housing where a better quality housing and lens would direct the light more on the ground then all over the place.

The projector beam housing in theory should focus the HID light better thereby producing a better pattern with sharp cut off lines.

I am trying to retro fit a kit as close as possible to the Lexus IS 350 or Porsche 996TT.

It is always hard to retro fit because it wasn't original design for HID with projector beam lighting. I already have the H4 6000K Bi-Xenon 50W HID with shield in a Bosch housing but was looking for a better housing that would produce sharp cut off lines like the S2000 has. I would like as much light as possible on the road without blind other drivers in the early morning hours.

I have installed the cheap $77.00 china made in daily drive Camry, it is better than the 9006 Halogen but the lights are point down and towards the right. There is place I could send the housing off to but they want upward of $800.00 for the HID conversion and the Camry is just an A-B grocery car so cost rule that out as option.

Re: HID Projector headlights

I believe there are many different housings you can purchase not just APC or other cheapies.
There are housings that point to the right of the road or left?
I would suggest looking @ different manufactures for different housings. They can't all be wrong for what you want, can they? :)

Which one have you tried?

I have tried Hella, Bosch and APC.

The pattern and cut off pattern with both Hella and Bosch are very good when you use the provide 55/60W Halogen bulb. The halogen bulb has filment that is shield (low beam) and high beam doesn't have shield.

The pattern changes when you use a HID bulb in a housing design for Halogen bulb.
Where the manufacture place the HID arc and if is shield or not makes a difference how the light is reflected inside the housing.

What I am looking for is housing with aftermarket HID bulb produce sharp cut off lines with little or very little glare with even pattern on the ground.

It is been a bit of trial and error to see what combination produces the best pattern.

Even one on the GN website has more stray light then I currently have.

I am looking into H3 HID bulb but the over all length seems to be too long for the foglight housing without cutting a hole in the back.

What have other member results have been with installing H3 HID into the foglight housing?

The Blazer driving light lets out more light than the stock foglight. I have found the Blazer driving light with PIAA 3800K Halogen bulb work better than stock foglight setup.

I have also notice the Blazer lens seem to crack easier than the Bosch lens or maybe it is all the road construction that is going on with the road to Whistler.

2 crack Blazer lens just another trip to Walmart.

I just don't think HID's fit the Sy or Ty's. I'm a fan of them, swapped them into the Vette actually. But it just doesn't seem to fit them.

xenon headlamps

Above is projector beam housing with 35W Bi-Xenon kit.

Currently people who are doing HID conversion for the Sy use an aftermarket lens housing Bosch, Hella, APC, Autopal etc and install either single H4 low beam HID only or H4 Hi (Halogen) Lo HID or H4 Bi-Xenon either 35W or 50W.

It depends on the quality of the housing and lens to how it focus the light along with position of arc as to how the beam of light will appear on ground and if the cut-off is sharp or not. Glare is depend on the shield and how the light is focused. There is a number of variables but the question is which one produces the best light pattern on the ground with minmum amount of glare to on coming drivers.

So far the result have been for me trial and error to what combination produce what.
There are many manufacture I haven't bought all the kits to find the best kit available. Other may have found different combinations that could produce better or similar results.

None of the HID I installed in either Bosch or Hella housing produce the same cut-off line that the supplied 55/60W halogen bulbs produce in a Bosch or Hella housing. All the 35W HID produce more light than the factory Sy headlight and more light than the Halogen bulbs.

The stock headlight is a seal beam unit produce the weaks amount of light.

Maybe if you got a black headlight cover to hide the cold nipple syndrome. I am sorry but those headlights look like ass.

Re: HID Projector headlights

I agree those HID lenses look bad.. everything about our trucks are squared which I think is why Im not digging those lenses you posted about besides the extreme price.

I have a set with H4 Bi-Xenon that have shields installed in autopal glass lenses and the cut off wasn't bad at all after a few adjustments... but I don't have pics and ended up taking them out of the truck due to some other issues.. I have them sitting on a shelf and plan to re install them again in the future but just don't have time.

*edit here's a pic of one of the h4 bi-xenon bulbs*

Re: HID Projector headlights

I did check below but haven't found any other headlight that would fit other than what has already been suggested.

http://www.racinglab.com/headasprojhe.html?gclid=CMWp7b7NtI8CFQh6gwod-00YPg

Are they worth $849.00? Is the 6054 housing with projector head light housing with HID producing a better pattern with sharp cut-off lines.

The price is what hold me back from trying them but then someone may have try them like the clear tail lights.
