Hey, new Typhoon owner

Hey, I just signed up for the site. I just bought a 92' Typhoon here in Minneapolis, Mn. It's my first Ty, I traded an 87' Turbo Buick for it. 90,000 miles.

I wanted to ask a couple questions. First, it's bone stock to my knowledge. The transmission has a problem. When it's cold, it shifts SUPER hard. Like break the u-joints hard. When is warms up it shifts alittle better, but not right. Any ideas on what might be wrong with it?
2nd, it doesn't seem to have much power. I know I need to start with the tune up stuff, but my 06' trailblazer LS could smoke this thing. That's just not right. It pulls real nice when it's up in the rpms a little, like coming off an offramp, but from a dead stop, I tried to launch it, and it was just very lazy. It might be related to the transmission, I don't know. Thanks for any input, you guys seem to have a lot of knowledge about these trucks from what I've read so far. Also, at low speeds when turning a sharp corner, there is a "pop" sound from the frontend, might that be a front shaft going bad??

Welcome to SyTy the trans might have that problem due to a shift kit that was put in and shouldnt of been, I'm told not to do that it dosent help the stock ones, as for the slugish caracteristics you probbably start with a full tune up, look here to get your Ty up to snuf http://www.powertuneplus.com/syclone/keyingredients.shtm

Newbie, again...

shifting hard is normal, so dont worry bout that, and if they are out of tune they are usually slow, gotta do a tune and a good tune-up. pop could be cv's or a-arm bushings or even trosion bar mounts.

Any way, first order of business on an unknown-condition truck would be plugs, wires, and cap and rotor. Also, drop the ECM down, and see if it has the stock chip, or something else.

Also, vacuum lines/hoses are a big trouble spot... they get hard and brittle from the heat and the years.

Swing on out to the show... we can point out all this stuff to ya.

Details on the truck? Color, last 4 of vin?

Welcome, My bet on the popping is the ball joints( common on all 4wd/awd s-series) Just jack it up with the wheel on and see if there is movement when pushing on top and bottom of the tire.

Thanks for all the responses. It's white/gry, vin is 1377. I think the tranny is fryed though. I will be driving it to the show, but from what my transmission guy said, he thinks there is a broken drum or band in it? I will be getting it rebuilt after this weekend. It still drives ok, just shifts real weird.

She just got an oil change and 180* thermostat. I will be at the show friday morning sometime. I'll check the ball joints to see if they are bad or not.

Not sure who your tranny guy is, but John at Master Transmissions is great.
He's built SyTy trannies before and knows them.
