New Guy here, just wanted to say whats up! Got one Q. Did the search thing for 2 weeks and tried all that you have explained but still noise.

SO, I just acquired a 92 ty in Malino, Italy and the guy said that he just
rebuilt the motor and it has 620 miles on it. Well there is now a taping
sound coming from that valve cover on the driver side. It gets louder with
RPMs. I did the spark plug thing and no change in sound. I took off the
valve cover and the rockers were lose. So I set the valves and still the
sound. It runs good and burns no oil but it idles ruff. I got a cap and spark
plugs coming for that prob. I have had two shops look at it and they both
say that it is rist pin or bad pistons. I don't think that the shops here can
fix it, just f#@> it up some more. What to do now? lost. :-?

Are you sure you are not hearing the infamous injector ticking? BTW, you can post a question like this in the Engine Tech forum or even in the Lounge. This way more people will read it...

If it's not injector ticking you hear, you can still disconnetc the plug wire one-by-one and listen for that noise. If it goes away you found the problematic cylinder. Of course it's not necessarly going away with this test. Beside piston noise it could be a lot of other thing. For example a bad lifter. Grab a timing light and listen for the noise. Does it come once at every revolution or once at every two revolutions? If the later it's probably valvetrain related...

It must be hosted and then posted ....do some search and you will find out
How many miles did the engine had before ? did the guy put just rings and bearings ?

Well talked to the guy and he said it go rebuilt with 33,000 miles. He said here changed every thing. Pistons, rods, rings, bearings, ext. Well I took it out for a drive to day and the oil pres.. was good. I have been so mad at the dam noise that I said f^%$ it and I launched it. So, when I was power braking it the rear tires started to spin so I let go and put it the floor. She pulls hard even with the noise. But shouldn’t that noise give it a false knock. The shops sad that is going to be at least 1 to 2 thousand euro to just find the problem. Is there any way I can pick up an other engine around here? By the way thank you for helping me, the other post in engine tech have gotten nothing.

The guy with the same knock sound said :"ill wait to see what will happen"
This was last year.
Just make sure where it comes from...get that stethoscope that looks like the one doctors have
Then at least you will know wich cyl is the one with the knock.(if its a cylinder)

R.T. is that you, if not how did you find your ty does the guy you bought it
from live on Elba island just wondering if it's the ty that i know.
P.S. sorry to hear about your problem, trust me I know all about owning a ty in italy it's a P.I.T.A.

Nice ::thumbsup::

I love driving in Napoli. The lines in the road are merely just a suggestion. I have had my Ty for a month now and its still not registered. Waiting on paper work. My wife and I might be going down there some time next month, Like to take a look at your Ty. Get some drinks in too. ::brews::

OK back to my Ty......Went over the engine with a stethoscope and the noise is the loudest on the back of the intake. But when I listen with my ear under the Ty the noise is loudest around the flexplate. ::sick:: So broke flexplate? any one? any one?
