Haven't commented on this thread till now, I have read it a few times and all I can say is" Your doing a pretty damn good job". Hopefully I won't be a customer ( don't want to break any cladding) but if I do, I don't think I'll have a problem putting one of your pieces on .

I like the party that is lined up behind the part, plenty of 7&7.

Would you be interested in making a mold for the SOGT bumperettes? I have a set...

I would actually love to have a sogt passenger rear on my sy and have the exhaust exit there...

I just happen to have left-over tooling gelcoat and resin and yes I would like to make a mold of the bumperettes. I'll PM you my address and gladly paypal you shipping..

Would you mind if I have them for a few months? I work on this stuff as I have time and it may take me 2-3 months to make the molds...

I don't think a GT corner would work on your Sy.. The Sy corner accepts the rear arch and the GT corner doesn't have provisions to do that. A hybrid of the 2 could be made but that would be a fair amount of work..

Re: Have you ever wondered what it takes to make a mold?

I wasn't sure about the arches, but that the corners are the same surprises me. I had the assumption that they were different because of the way the inside spare tire arrangements differ between the 2-door and 4-door. I assumed that these differences were because the rear of the wheel well to rear interior panel was shorter in the 4-door, so the outside 1/4 panel must be shorter too.

Obviously not. One can learn something new everyday, even about something they know quite a bit about.. Thanks.

I took some pics for you today Dave. This is factory 2-door cladding on my 4-door. I installed these and then drew a line on the body where they sit. That way I can ensure my 4-door cladding gets positioned the same..

Re: Have you ever wondered what it takes to make a mold?

Here is an update on the parts that I started Friday. Over the weekend I have:

Layed the first layer of glass over the gel-coat and wetted it out with resin:

Waited for that to set up then did another layer of slightly heavier glass and wetted that out..

I also started what I'm calling my ghetto mold. It will be used one time to make part of the custom 4-door cladding. To make it I put blue painters tape over the original cladding. Then I painted on some old resin that has gotten thick over the years and probably isn't useful for much of anything else. I let this setup like a gelcoat then grabbed my box of scrap cloth/MAT and started laying it up. I'm curious to see how it works out as I've never cut corners making a mold before but since this will only be a one time use I didn't really care much about it..

They just need a layer or two of MAT then they can be pulled from the molds and trimmed. I may try to make it over tomorrow evening to lay the MAT up on at least a few of those parts.. I'm tired of smelling that crap so I'm not working on it anymore today..

Yep, I thinking of spraying my cladding a satin or flat white. I don't want it to be the same base/clear white as the body..

Re: Have you ever wondered what it takes to make a mold?

So I have FINALLY finished molding all of the parts that I need to make my custom 4-door kit. At this point I just need to modify and combine some 2-door parts to make my 4-door parts..

These are my "ghetto molds" that will be used to build the back part of the one-off rear door cladding parts.
