Guage Wires thru Firewall

Hey Guys,

Being a gauge freak, I'm putting in 10 Autometer Phantoms. I'm trying to find a spot to come thru the Firewall on the Pass side. It seems like there are a few available on the Drivers side.

The only spot I can find on the Pass side is next to the existing one down low that is shielded from the Downpipe. The Heater/AC seems to cover everything else. I'm not crazy about that location because it's near the DP and may get alot of heat. I may check over by the Pass door and see if there's any place to go thru there. There is one good one in the center of the car, but it's pretty well blocked by the heater.

Any other locations U guys know about ?

I would route all your wires through the driver's side firewall as anything on the passenger side will be "charbroiled" by the downpipe as you mentioned. :-? Seems that the smaller sender wires would fair much worse...

Guys,

I found some good places to go thru the firewall and drilled 2 holes.

I drilled one next to the shielded one towards the center on the Pass side. I think it will be shielded from heat. Then I drilled one on the Driv. Side just under the one where the E Brake cable comes thru outside where the Vac Brake Booster is.

Then I also used the existing hole towards the center just inside the Vac Booster. That's a nice big hole and I pulled out the plug that was in there and cut the two wires that were imbedded in this plug.

For all 3 of these holes, I kept searching for PCV grommets that would fit the outside hole and where the inside hole would fit one of the wriing loom sizes. I was able to find one that was right for each of these 3 holes.

for pass side away fom everyting try this.

look at firewall behind fpr. yousee a stud sticking out.

make a 1inch hole 1 inch to the right of this stud towards drivers side.

remove radio.

fish wires thru the hole.

you can pull the wires thru fairly easily.

the stud is a support for the dash.

insert your wires thru a 1 inch rubber grommet.

you might want to undo and lift the 2 relays out of the way before doing this for drilling clearance.

I rean my dfi injector harness and wbo2 harness, and msbc solenoids harness' thru this. one inch give you lots of room for additional wiring.

the only other easy routs on the pass side in thru the antennae grommet.

on the drivers side i have run stuff also. use between the 7-8 oclock possiton from the booster looking from the engine side of the firewall. but drill from the interior side. start w a 1/8 bit first. you will have to play with the foam padding in the beggining. I can t begin to count how much stuff i have thru that hole but its pretty much maxed out.

Great research, Ed. I will probably need more holes and that's the next one I'll make. Some of us just can't help ourselves from adding more & more shit.... I've now got 2 in one hole, 4 in another and 6-7 in another.
