Got my Sy back after 3 months, need help with paint problem

Ok, so here's the story. I was rear ended mid july, and when it happened was pushed into the car infront of me. Well, i just got my sy back, the day b4 turkey day, and now that i have looked at it under better light, I HATE it. They had to obviously repaint the front end and the rear end....well, I had original paint on the truck to begin with. So now, I have a nice black front end and rear end, but the middle looks all faded now against the new paint. There is clearly a big difference in the color of the truck now, and basically want to know what my chances are of getting this guys insurance company to repaint the whole truck for me, or if anyone else has had to go through this what steps worked for them. Any info on getting my truck back to one soliid color would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

the insurance company will not pay for it.

i went around in circles with Allstate, telling them its impossible to match 11 year old paint etc... they do not care, their main concern is getting your truck drivable and as cheap as possible.

i got rearended and hit the guy in front of me, but fortunately i didnt have any body damage to my front end. After calling the claim adjuster everyday, bitching that they were not returning my truck to the way it looked before the accident, they still refused to paint the entire truck. But they did agree to paint all of my cladding after i told the adjuster to come out and look at the pieces and how rediculous it looked with new cladding next to the old faded cladding.

bottom line... Insurance companies love to take your money every month, but hate to give it back when you get into an accident.

Don't let them get off on this call them every day and talk to different people and tell anyone that will listen to your problem. I just had to do this but because they stripped my oil pan. Let them know that this is a collector truck and that they just decreased the value by thousands and don't give up till you get something threaten them with small claims court. I was on the phone for two weeks straight and I went and got estimates on pulling the motor and replacing the oil pan and just kept telling them that it can't cost more than a couple hundred bucks to replace the pan. Finally one lady got on the phone and new nothing about the deal and said well send us an estimate. So I did for $960 and the check was here in 3 days. Just don't let it slide keep on them and I think you will see some results.

Most cases here in Texas the insurance company's will pay for polish the rest of the vehicle so it looks at least simular to the new paint. I don't know how bad your factory paint is but i have seen wonders made by proffesional polish and wax a black old paint job. Maybe something you can look in to?

you never know, since theres not pic i cant say for sure but, i believe what it sounds like is you still need to wet sand the truck, maybe a layer of clearcoat, and some wet sanding will fix it, 350 max

I've been painting for years and run a rod and customs shop in Topeka. Sounds to me like they used basecoat/clearcoat on the front. I'm not for sure, but I think Syclones were single stage paint from the factory, hence the matching problem. On the up side, it's an easy fix, just clear the rest of the truck. That's really the only way to make it match. Good luck. Mike

Call up the insurance and tell them you want a GOOD explanation of dimunished value law and how that affects your truck which NOW doesn't match and is obviously less valuable with non orignal non matching paint.

The law varies for each state, but might be worth a visit to library ahead of time to be prepared to correct the insurance company.

I mentioned this law once to an insurance adjuster who was giving me a hard time. his next sentence was, where can I send the check sir. Worked for me.

Never underestimate a good letter...IMO.
A letter sent to the main office you are dealing with, and to corporate office customer service department might do the trick. I would even ask the board for help in getting prices of what a pristine origional sy or ty goes for and what a vehicle that has paint issues is going for....I would also see if you cant find a shop that YOU trust and who agress with you and have them work up an estimate...a letter and their estimate could do the trick
