Good Source for Custom Battery Cables

I've had the battery relocated to the bed of my Sy for several years now with no issues. Started to raise the truck on the lift and suddenly it's the 4th of July in April. Apparently the chassis torqued and twisted enough to short the old battery cable in between the frame and passenger fender well.

After a short internet search, I ordered a replacement from Greg's Marine Wire Supply http://gregsmarinewiresupply.com

For $57 plus shipping, I got 11ft of 1/0 AWG, complete with battery terminal and 3/8" lug post soldered and shrink-wrapped as you see below. Since it's a marine supply house, the wire is tinned to help prevent corrosion. The cable was considerably more flexible than my old wire, making it easier to run back to the bed. And its made in the USA - A good product at a good price ($57 plus shipping). Truck is up and running again...now back to fixing the exhaust leak..

Normally i dont post on this site any more but this is a very dangerous safety issue so i will chime in. Never run a relocated battery with non protected positive cable. I have been relocating battery's for 46 Years and the cable has to be protected. The photo below is self explanatory. To all that are interested PM me for the proper way to accomplish a safe relocation procedure.

I also agree that well protected power leads are critical in the safety of all battery installations and relocations. I recommend an equally sized ground wire as well since the power in our 12v systems , technically run through the grounds . :tup: The thicker covering like Tom has in that pic is a nice choice .3/4 heater hose also works if nothing cheap can be found locally or someone just wants added protection in a through the frame rail instance . Split loom or an equivalent thin plastic covering can breakdown over time or become brittle from extended sun/uv exposure .

If you have a nice method Tom , feel free to post it up here so 5,10,15 people don't have to pm you every time someone comes across this thread in the following years .

Good advice and a subject I neglected to discuss in my post. As it happens I also used 3/4" hose for the passageways in the fenderwell, along with the usual rubber grommets for the bed/battery box passages. But given that's it's cheap insurance I'll go back and run the whole length in hose - thanks.
