I want TRUE AWD traction.. Something tells me TURBOCHARGER + LS6 = lack of traction.. Hence this is going in...

Loss of traction is right, here is an AWD LS1 doing an AWD burnout:

You can never post enough pics.

Did he swap over to an LS1 ? Last I saw he was running an LT1.. In either event both are plenty enough power with a turbo to really wail on a pair of tires...

That truck is pretty pimp.. I remember stumbling across his site when I first got my truck and thought it was pretty cool..

according to lock rite they do not reccomend these for full time AWD truck or vehicles driven on pavement.

i have this in mine.

no problems around town or on highway.

you will hear a normal clicking in turns, especially off ramps.

if your racing and the drivers front comes off the ground, expect it to go to the left radically when the tire comes back down. if you have caltracs and it does this add 1/4 turn on the drivers side. (then kiss a stock axle adios).

if you find wander at high speed in the traps go get the caster maxed out.
my taillights would wiggle at top end.

if you get out of the groove on a launch, get out of it as it will be kind of harry trying to save it. not worth it to try to get back into it.

would i do this mod again. yes!

what i dont know for sure is exactly what is going to happen trying to keep it going straight off the line as we started putting more to it off the line.

i am referring to as the tires come off the ground more will we be able to keep it going straight as it comes back down. only testing is going to tell us this.

for most users this wont be an issue.

So this seems like it works very well for you ed. Do you realy think the front locker caused the rear axle to break on you. You sure do some hard luanch's with that line lock  Did you replace the rear gears in your Sy Ed? Isnt the stock rear diff a posi limited slip diff? so just adding the front locker will make all 4 wheels turn all the time?

Yes the stock axle has a 'posi' in it.. But its better spelled P.O.S.

Most performance GM vehicles come with this crummy POSI, its rather weak and its not really suited for our needs/goals.

Mine fragged on me and I installed an Eaton 2+ years ago.. In retrospect I sort of wish it was the other way around, I wish I would have put the LOCK RIGHT in the rear and a posi in the front.. <oh well, live and learn I guess>

The only problem is they dont make a POSI for the front tho, only a LOCKER. And I spent some GOOD $$ on the Eaton back in the day so I will probably just stay with that for the time being.

I dont expect to run the low 10s ET's like some guys are doing here. My goals have changed since I acquired the truck, I dont want to go all out and run the drag strip exclusively like a 10 sec truck was built for. I want an all around performing truck, if anything, leaning more towards AUTOCROSSING (catch the PUN there ??)

And yes, As Warmpancakes mentioned, this mod is NOT recommended by the manufacturer for our application. However I spoke to John Gerber at length about it, (he has had in his Ty for sometime) and I decided because our trucks are such an oddball combo, its better to trust a fellow owner for proven results.

Just my .02

I had this in the rear of my everyday driver Sonoma and I took it out. While it was very good for traction, it clunks and grinds alot. The tires scrub around every corner. When it is wet out, I've been sideways heading towards a ditch on many occasions. Prolly good for racing as Ed says but for everyday driving, you'd be better off with an upgraded posi.

the rear drivers axle broke and at the same time the drivers front broke.

dont know which was 1st but on the same run.

the locker didnt cause it... to much power did.

the old rear that broke had powertrax locker in it also.

gears then and now were 3.08

the new rear is 8.5, with spool, 33 spline moser axles and rear cover with ford ends.

with lockers front and rear everything turns at same time unless they are unlocked.

with the spool in the rear there aint no unlocking gonna happen on the rear.

only made one run 3 weeks ago with the new rear, winter traction, no prep and got a 1.46 60ft.
