The oil feed line will disconnect just fine without dropping anything in the pan. Not necessary for the front dif removal but pan removal, yes of course. I'd just cut the hose, if original, cuz yur gonna replace it anyway. Get rid of those "tangs." Remove the pinion flange. (Or do like I did and grind the welds on the outer portion of that support and re-weld it later.) I also had to loosen the motor mounts and jack the motor just a bit.

Think removal is difficult wait for the reinstall.:squint:

well i'm stuck on getting the diff out. i have removed everything but the pinion flange. If i remove the pinion flange i don't want to mess with the bearing and crush sleeve when i reinstall the flange back on the unit.

And X2 about checking the fluid!!

Is there a trick to this? I know there isn't a dip stick, i have never had any problems just figured i'd nip it in the butt now. Maybe swap out the fluid with some Royal Purple.

You can mark the pinion nut and reinstall it -exactly- where it came. Folks who switch to the Gilbert propshaft, which requires a different flange, do it all the time. Good time to change the seal anyway. You can get it out without removing the flange or the inside portion of the support by raising the motor. At least that's what I did but in the end I would remove the flange if I were to remove it again OR remove the inside portion of the support. One or the other. Flange is easier and faster. That's my experience anyway.

Also those two little tangs on the cross member on the driver side those look to be like where a steering stabilizer would bolts on a four wheel drive model. Is the ty's suppse to have a stabilizer on them.

The little bracket piece on the frame is for a stabilizer, but our trucks didn't use it. You can bang it flat or grind it off if you want.

All the Ty's I've seen have had a stabilizer on them, no Sy's though.

Just fill it up until it runs out the highest inspection hole in the case, then your done :tup:

Ok, maybe it is just Sys then. Mine doesn't have one.

As far as the flange, I didn't have to remove it. I just twisted the diff forward and it came right out. The bracket on the passenger side of the diff has to be off to rotate it the way it needs to go though.

just bend the support around towards the drivers side. bend back when needed.

...re-weld when "bending back" splits the bracket from the frame. Doh!
