Front diff vent

I understand that this (hose and check valve) is a necessity, but is there any reason one couldn't shorten it up a bit? I am assuming it is routed to ensure it never sees contact with water, am I missing something? IE why is it so damn long? TIA

Re: Front diff vent

my guess is its that long becuase its probably some sort of fire hazard, epa hazard, and to help prevent crap getting in it. Shorten it or route it somewhere else.

Thanks Mike, that's what I figured. Having seen what I have lately swapping mounts I have stopped assuming anything about the "logic" of GM engineering.

Re: Front diff vent

Typically in 4x4 apps they route the vents up higher in the body with the notion that it will see water over the diff at some point in its life.

That and they probably had the hose mounted to the body already when the diffs were set in place on the assembly line.

I would think it is safe to shorten it and keep the vent "valve" as close to the diff as possible.
