Front diff parts

I put in a rebuilt 700r4 with billet servos and all the top notch parts. Also a lock-up converter used on a race vette, and a dynotech driveshaft. First week on the road i ate up the pinion gear and bearings inside the front diff. Does anyone know where to get heavy duty diff parts for the sy/ty?

No such things. Your only choice is good replacement parts.

How exactly did you "eat up" the pinion? Did you break it? How was the lube level? Is your Tcase fully functional? Reason I ask, is that the front axle is usually only seeing 35% of engine power (65% goes to the rear) and as such doesn't often go bang. Now in offroad applications, they break them without too much trouble (big tires + shock loading = broken axles). So, did it break because of too much power, shock loading, or poor maintenance (by you or more likely previous owners)

If your case is ok, you could rebuild it. But it might be better / easier / cheaper to score a late model unit with the appropriate gears. Later model cases have a drain plug, which might prove convenient in the future.

Re: Front diff parts

Yeah I bought the truckwith about 118k miles on it. Seeing as how the trans went in the first 2 weeks, i guess it was only fitting that something else go as well. Obviously it was ragged out or not taking care of. Also, i test drove the car inRWD when i was waiting on the new propshaft, and only one wheel left a mark in a burnout. I cant wait till i fix it all though, these are just unfortunate speed bumps. Thanks for the help

Re: Front diff parts

You can get a replacement from a Syclone, Typhoon, Bravada or an all whell drive Astro van. Be sure that you get the 3.42 gears or you will have some major problems. The 4X4 S series truck differentails will also work, but you will have to swap out the yoke that comes on these for the companion flange that is on yours.

Yeah, sounds like its been beat on pretty hard.

If you've only got one wheel peel, then the diff in the rear may be toast too.

Sounds like you've bought a truck that will require some significant work. I'd suggest you start planning out what your goals are, doing a lot of research on here, and start allocating funds towards each project.

For instance, if you're going to build a 10 second truck, plan on upgrading the rear to a better unit (stock is 7.625" 10-bolt, plan on moving up to at least a 8.5" 10-bolt or better like a 12 bolt, or 9"). Figure out what gears you're gonna need (because the fronts & rears must match) in order to meet your goals (maybe 3.08's ???). Because, if you're gonna rebuild the front, and the rear diff is done too, you might as well only have to do each of them once (and only shell out $$$ once).
