Just wanted to know, lol....I found this long tube sticking out of my rear Diff.....is this the filler tube ? And if so, why the hell is it 3 feet long, lol...can I shorten it without screwing something up ? I'm learning to handle most of this stuff myself...any help is appreciated.

That is a vent tube. Your transmission has one too that is bolted up by the transmission fill tube. To fill the rear differential, there is a 3/8" square drive plug on the passenger side of the differential that you remove. Then, you fill the differential until gear oil runs out the hole the plug was in.

Awesome...I've brought it in to shop a couple times, and you were right, lol....I've only had this thing a few months now, and the whole 4x4 thing is a real eye opener, lol....I took that tube and sinched it up against the housing so it's out of the way. I also performed my very first Diff fluid change this past week end....you don't want to know what came out of there, lol....Anyways, she's all better now.
