FAST Startup

Ok.. I have tried the program that BG and Nightdiver sent to me, along with the one that Harry sent to me... turns over fine. After about 10 revs, I guess.. .it backfires.. and while the flame show is nice, I would rather have it start.

I have compared the crank start map in all three programs... one is at 13.4 and the other two are at about 7.6. Why the grand difference.. I have base FP set at 40 psi and am using #84 Injectors.

I guess I have looked around, nothing obvious... looking for ideas... I guess I will set up a time with Harry to talk while the laptop is connected.

Just wondering if it is something stupid I am doing or something. The DP is hot... I think that tells me it is firing and burning fuel...

any ideas are greatly appreciated.. I looked at the help menu and it tells me to look at the BPW at idle to determine what to set it to for crank? How am I supposed to do that when I cannot get it started?

TIA

Is this on a new motor ? or has this combo ran, but you just setup FAST on it recently?

I'd start messing with the hardware if all looks well otherwise - timing set correctly etc.

i would verify that the timing on the crank is the same as in the computer.

if its backfiring, that sounds like the timing is off.

It is a new motor.. I will check all of the timing, etc.

It is new though.. I am sure I set the distibutor in the correct place, etc.

Thanks for the help.

I am thinking that you are right...

I know that the programs that these guys sent me have to be right because their stuff is running on them..

I have given it a prelim check.. I will go through it tomorrow.

Basically turned it to when both of the valves on cylinder 1 were closed and set and put the balancer at the pointer on 0... set the distributor so that the rotor was pointed at the number one plug. I guess I have done something wrong.. I will go back through it and start over....

I will have to get some sort of a piston stop.

I should have taken a little more care to mark TDC when the head was off... hmm.. I will figure it out..

I appreciate it.

I just went through the same thing, crank-pop, pop-crank-pop.

Took my drivers side valve cover off and made sure both valves were closed, fine tuned the timing pointer on the crank and then installed my distributor.
Fired right up after that. :D

Now I am sad though, see my post in the Tech Area. :(
