Fan

I got this intercooler, no Ac with this electric fan and I am overheating. The intercooler is 4" tick.
The cooling system is working fine, I have 50/50 with waterweater , even swap the aluminium water pump to a HD from autozone.

I am thinking on going back to the stock clutch fan, looking for opinions.

Re: Fan

Put a cowl hood on it, get rid of some of that heat. Might need a push fan too! just my .02

Re: Fan

Maybe the fact that the ic is really thick and completelly covering your radiator might be the problem?? I don't know if that could even be a concern but it was when I was doing my front mount which is why I went with a 3" ic that didn't completely cover the radiator in fear of having this type of issue but again I have no clue but something to think about?

Re: Fan

You can put two push-type SPAL fans on the front of the IC and two pull-type fans in the back pulling air threw into the engine compartment. Put a cowl hood on to get the heat out. That is one massive IC!

Re: Fan

The fans are rated either 2500 or 2700 cfm, I don't have room in front to add more fan, I got a trans cooler there.

Re: Fan

Sorry pimp... he'll need the thermostat to slow down the flow of coolant - heat won't get sucked out of the coolant otherwise..... Moroso does make flow restrictors, but I'd just go with a 160 thermo. :2cents:

Re: Fan

Are you over heating when you start to drive the truck for a little while or does it over heat just sitting there running with the hood open. Depending on your answer if it over heats sitting there you might have a bad thermostat. It might not be openinning. If it overheats when you are driving then i agree with the others that you have to much blocking the the flow of air to the radiator. Remove the intercooler and take it for a SLOW ride. just around the block a few time. Dont hit the peddle hard. see what the temp goes to. You wont have boost but you can go slow just to test what happens.

Re: Fan

The thermostat is ok, with a garder hose pouring water at the radiator, ti gets cool down fast..
The fan is not big enought to cool the radiator down behind that intercooler, I am going to put back the stock fan, if that dosen't work, I will have an intercooler for sale.

thanks

Re: Fan

Stock clutch fan back on, didn't help.
Add a 12" aux fan in front, still overheating.
My heater core low pressure side is plumb on top of the water pump, I am going to switch it back to the radiator and see if that help.

Re: Fan

your intercooler is no thicker than mine and i have no problem cooling it down.

few years ago everyone on here was raving about ford taurus fan pulling 5000 cfm.

then somebody starts talking about 2700 cfm volvo fans.

i kinda scratched my head at that one.

anyway get more airlfow with the taurus fan.

I cant speak either way on the thermostat cause i use a simple restrictor plate in place of it.

I think mr gasket has them with 3 different holes in the center. i run the largest hole piece.

someboy around here i think its mike renz has a shot of my engine bay showing my radiator fmic setup.

hope this helps

Re: Fan

one other thing

move the big heatsink in front of your intercooler to down under where the original ic used to be. mount it at 45 degrees with the fittings facing forward just at bumper level... you'll figure it out. and mount a fan on it.

I have 3 old trans coolers with fans on them if you need one.

no reason to add heat in front of an intercooler. :)

Man.... I could be wrong but that looks REEEAL bizy / crowded up there. I think you got too much stuff (cores) and not enough fan / air flow :2cents: . And Ed is on the money, drop the tranny cooler down underneath and maybe redo or loose the P/S cooler if you want to be real sure? Double check your complete cooling system to make sure you don't have a system related problem also (did you have a problem before mounting the I/C)?

On a related note, I could mention a good A2W system but numerous people would start throwing old shoes and breaker bars at me :squint: :rotf: .

I had a Volvo fan and it use to stall the engine out when it kick in, I have a 140 amp alt.
Bought the flex a lite because it draws only like 18 amps and its 2500 cfm.
