Engine Tiedown's/ Torque strap Interest.....

Re: Engine Tiedown's/ Torque strap Interest.....

Has anyone ever run into a problem with the supplied long bolt being the wrong size and having the wrong thread pitch? The stock alternator bracket bolt is a metric M10-1.50 while the supplied bolt is a 3/8"-16, which is slightly smaller in diameter. I suppose I can order a long M10 bolt and slightly enlarge the two holes in the tie-down bracket for it to fit.

just received mine last night. who knows how long it was sitting in my mailbox?
looks really good . however, and this is on me, but after i put it on my idle in drive with brake depressed has a lot of shake to the whole vehicle now. is this what it feels like to have solid motor mounts? i don't have solid mounts but that's what it feels like.

i set the tiedown to "snug", i guess? i put it w/no slack in the chain. i guess if i put some slack in it then idle should smooth out? :dunno:

yes, depending on how tight you set it will change the amount of engine harmonics that get sent through the frame. Even tight there is still more "give" than with solid mounts. You can really adjust it to your preference. You can tighten it down then grab the turnbuckle and push-pull to see how much give it has before it stops moving. Or better yet loosen it up a bit, Pop the hood, and Have someone load the engine on the brakes and watch how much slack it takes before the tiedown starts to hold the engine down and adjust it from there.

just for a before reference try to load the engine without the tiedown, then add it and check again.....

thanks

Received my chrome one last week and it sure does look good and great design. Just one question. My Dad and I tried to install it yesterday and it seems it will not fit over the alternator bracket because the bushing on the rear of the bracket is sticking out about 1/8.
I can't believe the chrome made the bracket this much smaller or should I just grind some material off the alternator bracket in the front.

Thank You,

Sean

I would not cut the engine tiedown. I would see if you can remove material on the alternator or alternator bracket. just my .02

No I wouldn't want to remove any material from the tie down because it is a work of art. The alternator fits fine between the alternator bracket but on the back of the bracket there is that bushing sticking out so when you tighten the bolt it presses against the alternator to hold it tight. I was thinking of removing some material on the front of the alternator bracket so the tiedown would slip over. If the bushing wasn't in on the backet of the alternator bracket, the tie down would probably fit just fine. Not sure why no one else had this problem.

I have a chrome one and it fit just fine. I just needed to "help" the bolt through a tad with a rubber mallet.

I'm going to take the alternator off again today and see what is going on. I also had my alternator bracket powder coated this past year so maybe the powder and the chrome tiedown bracket is making it so it while not fit.

you can just tap the washer back into the alternator bracket, yes it is a tight fit, i designed it that way. If the spacer is in all the way and it still is tight i would try to shave a bit off the front of the alternator bracket so that the tiedown slides on. i wouldnt be afraid to tap the bracket on a bit either, as long as when it is on the tiedown bracket can pivot somewhat freely.

Found the problem. It seems the alternator bracket ear with the crush bushing was alittle wider. I have another alternator bracket and compared it and sure enough the ear was wider and also the crush bushing. Took a die grinder to the crush bushing and the other side of the ear oposite the crush bushing. Fits perfect and looks great. Now all I need to do is get my chrome Powermaster alternator back from having new bearings installed.

Any of these left? I would be interested in two of them.

I have 2 sets left, one is chrome, and one is bare.

chrome-$90 shipped
Bare-$65 shipped

If I have a interest for more I would need 20 interested parties mininum before I get them cut/packaged up.

Looking into different colors powdercoated on the next run also. Any other improvements or additions you all would like to see on the next round? (besides the red tape on packaging, has been noted)

I will take both the chrome and the bare. Please confirm that both are mine and I will paypal asap. I also need to know how you will be shipping them (postal or courier)

Thanks,
