Engine block

My truck has been at this shop since september for a rebuild. They finally pulled the motor out last month and told me that to pistons had wholes in them but everything else looked great. They sent the block to the machinist and told me it should take 10 days. Couple of weeks ago I go up there to check on it and they tell me that the pistons wreck the block and I can't use it but they were looking for me a block and should be able to get one pretty cheap. Went by there this week and now they tell me that they didnt know that this was a different animal.(basically they thought they could get a regular block) Now they've done some research and they want me to get a Bowtie block and a steel crank and use my internals from the old block. My rebuild was supposed to be about $3,000.00... The damn crank by it self cost that much. I'm at the point where I'm trying to decide if I need to try and find a block or do I need to find a motor that's already put together and if so where can I find them.
Any suggestions?

Re: Engine block

you need to find a new shop, theres nothiong special about our blocks just the main caps, Find a local salvage yard get a 93 cpi motor , use that block and heads have it machined for 4 bolt mails

Re: Engine block

There are a number of engine rebuilders throughout the United States that sell complete engines or short blocks via mail order. You can get the exact engine for your vehicle trough one of those companies.

Blaines Motor Supply in Dallas TX has a convenient on line catalog. www.blainesmotorsupply.com

Blaines doesn't have correct SyTy shortblocks, and quite frankly neither will anybody else with the exception of RPM.

Re: Engine block

If I were you I would get all your original stuff back and find someone else.

Don't let these jokers lose your nodular main caps and other hard to find parts.

The main caps, and pistons are what makes the SyTy motor different. A reman longblock will have standard main caps, which will sacrafice some durability. More importantly, a reman engine will have flat-top pistons; that eliminates your ability to run a turbo. Unless you have a custom tune for the high compression, you will re-blow the motor.

Also, more than likely, a reman block will be bored 60 over, which makes your cylinder walls very thin, not good for boost.

Re: Engine block

Wait I thought the SyTy blocks had a higher amount of nickel or something like that? So the only difference is Hypereutectic (or whatever) pistons and the main caps? Sorry for the rookie questions.

To the OP there are always engines for sale on here, I think there is a complete motor in the for sale section right now for 1600.

TL;DR: Pistons and main caps. Everything else is "off the shelf".

RPM Shortblock $3,995 No Core Charge
RPM Longblock $5,195 No Core Charge
I have never bought an entire engine from RPM but I have bought numerous parts from them during the past decade and they have always provided great service.
