Drop blocks and suspension talk

Ok, now that I've got the front torsion bars turned all the way down I want to even out the truck with a set of drop blocks. I'm unsure of how far I've turned them down and what the actual drop was so I'm now unsure of what sized blocks to get. I was thinking that the 3" drop blocks would put it down pretty level with the front but wanted some opinions on what you guys would do.

Also, now that I'm putting the truck's suspension to the test what would you guys recommend for a good set of shocks? I've noticed a few people in my other thread discuss Bilstein shocks and will probably go with them, again, opinions welcome.

Lastly, would I need to run a shorter shock up front and in back now that the truck is being lowered?

Re: Drop blocks and suspension talk

Shocks for rear are mounted on plates that do not change height because the lowering blocks mount between axel and plate. With 3in blocks you may need to remove the factory bump stops and cut bracket off. Just rember to use your wedge and off set the pin holes or your wheels will move forward.

Axle setback plates, that's right. Forgot about those!

Would you recommend I order my wheels/tires first before lowering or should it not matter?

They will be 18x8.5 in the front and 18x9.5 in back, no issues with rubbing you think?

Im running 17x9.5 fronts and 17x11 rear, fronts rub a tad if you turn lock to lock. Had these wheels on my 4x4 blazer b4 the Ty and no issues. I'd like to see if I could get a 13 wide wheel on the back.

as long as the offset is right the new wheels will fit fine at that height, thats what size mine are..

Re: Drop blocks and suspension talk

Couple ways to do the rear suspension... and I have gone thru a couple. One thing I suggest not doing is running cheap auto store cast blocks. I had a set crack and crumble to a very scary situation. At the present time I have bell 3 in drop, they gave me 1.25 drop., 1 inch solid drop blocks drilled to 11/16 offset.Use the wedges. Get the good "U" bolts from jags that run. Get a rear sway bar and work it into the setup with clearance. I run HD air shocks listed for a blazer. This lets me adjust from 5 psi for nice and low , with some bottoming out to more psi to cary load. I run autocross with this and with the air shocks I can haul people and things a stock TY does.

You need to check the front end height being unscrewed all the way first. If you ever plan on doing limiters at all your going to find you will bottom out really fast and rub bad.

I have 2" drops in the back, and the bolts unscrewed about half way and it sits pretty good. I loaded the bed with weight for a few weeks(because its not running yet) to lower it to where it'll actually sit.

I agree. I would just do a set of 3" block, most people complain about the ride with 3" blocks. Also if you dropped the front suspension much, it just going to be hitting the bump stops and the Ball joint will be binding regulary.
