Does the parking brake have a return spring?

My parking brake has never worked right since I got it. It would always go to the floor and never come back up unless I pulled it up. I just spent some time tightening the cable and it doesnt go to the floor anymore but it still doesnt spring up like I am used on other vehicles. Any ideas?

Is it just the spring towards the end cable that returns the lever?

I wanna say there is a spring under the dash that might be really wore out or gone. Check there first if its not coming back up.

Hmmmm, having recently yanked all the drum hardware off my truck, you'd think I'd know the answer.... I'm thinking that the little spring by the rel;ease lever only served to keep the release lever cable from coming loose. The spring that actually pulls the brake shoes away from the drum (and causes the pedal to come up off the floor) is at the end of the e-brake cable as it enters the drum, as seen in this photo:

speaking of pbrake pedals, anyone know how to get the rubber stop back into its bracket? I made the mistake of removing it....

Thats kind of what I am worried about. I have adjusted the tension on the cable and it still doesnt want to return. I guess either my springs have become soft or I have a cable with a bunch of junk in it. Maybe I should try to lubricate the cable first.

I would try and do what they do with windshields. Loop a small rope inside the rubber pedal and tuck one side of the rubber portion over the steel pedal. Force the pedal on while using the rope to pull the rubber over the steel pedal.

Fixed it

I just lubed the cable with some bike chain grease since it had a long spout at the end of the bottle. I just bombed it into the opening and moved the lever back and forth real good. Works like new.
