SyTyArchives's (Ian) truck has mild bolt ons.... fuel pump and external wastegate being the biggest items on there.... slightly tweaked chip - Ultimate T116 spooling just over 15psi.....big deal.


stock suspension, stock rims, 245/50s - kumho ecstas in front, goodyear F1s in the rear, no tie downs...


ian pulled consistant low 1.7s all day long.... and the track wasnt gripping worth shit between the heat and the 10 and 11 sec back to back passes being done after the VHT was burnt off.... if i recall, his best 60' was a 1.70?



i dont know what stock sytys youve ran or driven, but you obviously havent come across a well tuned truck or someone who doesnt know how to drive and launch one properly. You'd change your tune if you had the chance to sit in on a 10+psi launch on a heathy truck.

So there are some "freaks" running 1.70- 1.69's, but when I just looked in the members rides section I see a shit load of 1.9s, 1.8's and even some 2.0's - and sombody running 1.79's on a 2800 stall t/c. I'm running the stock drive train with mild bolt ons(besides the turbo, to replace a blown t-25) and 15 psi, which I can build at the line when I launch. -i've ridden along for launches in dsm's pulling 1.6 sec 60' times, so I doubt a 1.6 in a sy or ty would be much different-

when I launched the sy I drove, I did exactly like recomende- shift in to netural and rev it, feel the break pedal go down a little bit, shift in to drive(not overdrive) and lanch it- the truck was running falken 255/50 16's and still had some traction problems. the ty I drove was sick, and could not build boost at the line.

My goal here wasn't to start a flame war, I just thought it was rather rude that this guy was being a snot. Then people on here started acting like dsm's can't be just as fast(or a hell of alot faster) than sy/ty's. when you guys have a street leagle awd sy or ty running low 9's on street tires / or a awd sy/ty running low 8's let me know.

but uhhh why the loud lawnmower-esque muffler? im not trying to be a smartass... ok yeah i am, but seriously... why the loud exhaust? what really is the fucking point of making a bunch of worthless annoying noise? maybe im retarded and just dont understand... but it doesnt sound good or even come close to resembling a rational good sounding throaty exhaust that youd hear from a V8, so again i ask why?!?!?!

i havent heard your car, so i dont know if youd have the answer to this, but im sure you know someone that has that shit... i just want to know why?

now for an on topic comment...

i have 2 guesses for reason why the guy blew you off...
1. the guy knows he has a syty, but doesnt thinks its no big deal and had no idea why the hell you were giving him a thumbs up.
or...
2. he figured that you were someone who had heard of a syty, but never actually seen one, kinda like a UFO sighting or seeing bigfoot. and knew he was gonna be bombarded with questions, first one being, "arent these the ones with the 350?"

fortunately i live in an area, of what i like to call "trend whores" meaning whatever is the coolest new trend, thats what all the kids go and get. kinda like the new GI Joe with the kung fu grip! so since my truck doesnt have mugen or the favorite ricer stickers of your choice all over it, or a 2ft bookshelf wing on the top of my toneau cover, my truck doesnt get a second look, and if it does, its a condescending look, like "nice body kit, fag". as far as anyone knows around here i just have a 10 year old lowrider with a body kit, and i like to keep it that way.
since ive had my sy, ive pulled over and talked to 2 random people. 1 actually turned out to be Torrey, a fellow bb member and sy owner. the other was a hottie and her friend in a turbo eclipse, that tried to race me from a stop and from a roll. after loosing both times they pulled up next to me and said "what the hell is in that truck?!?!" and if a hot girl asks whats in your truck, you pull over and show her!!

overall i think it just depends on the person, theres a couple occaisions i can think of... i saw a sy on the freeway and i was in mine, i pull along side the guy, give him a nod and a thumbs up and the guy just looked at me like i was crazy and rolled his window up. another was a guy in a white ty, who was a total asshole, again i was driving my sy, and i pulled up next to him in the parking lot, and tried asking what number his truck was, and he didnt know, and got in his truck and basically ignored me.

which brings me to the bottomline of my post, and a rule of thumb for this entire topic...

not everyone is into these trucks as much as we are, and not everyone is gonna stop and have a 3 hour conversation with you about what mods theyve done and thier fastest track times. once you realize this, you wont let one asshole ruin your opinion of the whole community.

Hi my name is Daron, and I am a snob squared..

My truck pulled low 1.7 high 1.6 60 fts, on the stock suspension. All Sy's are capable IMHO, some owners just cant race (yes I am a snob to the second power).

My stock Sy ran 13.5-13.6, bone stock, with 50,000 miles, on the stock original tires.

A few tweaks in the chip, exhaust, and intake dept netted me 12.4's.

If I was heading to the grocery store and had you bozo'n next to me wanting to run, I'd have smiled and waved you to the next stop light. After embarrasing you I'd give you that look, like I had just wasted my time and what a shame it is I did so.
Maybe thats cause I am a snob though.

Had you of just pulled up next to me and waved, maybe a thumbs up, I may have invited you to the Grocery parking lot for a chat. I have met some nice folks like that...

Im with Dave on attitude.. Try to pace me or keep up with me leaving a light and its on. Drive some kinda neon light, body kit infested, and winged rolling barf bag and I'll ignore you (unless its got a 14/71 sticking through the hood then I'll pull over and slap you around for wasting a good super charger).

Give me thumbs up and I'll return the favor even if youre driving a primered piece of crap. Talk to me like you have some sense and use a vocabulary that DOESNT include the word "like" ever other word, nawss, or "phat". If you do I'll laugh at you and dare you to do anything about it cause Im prolly looking for an excuse to slap some sense into you. If you do talk to me like you have some sense then I'll prolly talk your ear off about cars, racing, turbos, etc.

FWIW dept. Best 60' is a 1.70 on stock tires and stock suspension at a well prepped track. My truck averages mid 1.70s 60s if I have to follow some knot head that drowns his car in the water box for the burnout. 60' times go all to hell if I launch at 15psi but then again I like launching that way. Its fun.

Out of my own experience I have had many people pull up and give me a thumbs up or even tell me at a light what a nice truck I had or they wish they didnt sell theirs. I give them the time of day or a smile and wave. But if I get some kid slowing down and reving when I get next to them looking for a race, I just keep driving.

Not everyone in a performance vehicle is looking for a street race and like me dont have time to play with you. There is a kid in my area with a yellow acura. This kid haunted me almost everyday when I had my Mustang. Pulling up and reving and cuttin me off, the works. Even one day he cut across 3 lanes of traffic out of KFC to get me in a turning lane and when I didnt pay him anymind he gave me the finger and cut me off, thats with his girl in the car with a bag of chicken on her lap. Well the moron now follows my Ty around. I still pay him no mind and he gives me the finger and drives off, this takes place almost everyday during my ride home at lunch. I wanna catch this kid out of his car one day and nicly speak with him, I see his scrawny ass weaving in and out of traffic everyday.

If this makes me a snob then yeah I guess I am that way cause I own a Typhoon.

I "guess" you could consider my muffler ricey if you didn't know much about imports- My exaust consists of a ported exhaust manifold, ported turbo, ported o2 sensor housing, 2.5" down pip, 3" cat, and a 3" cat back with an Apex N-1 Muffler- yes it has a 4.5" tip, but it sounds closer to a turbo desel truck than some honduh. I Happen to think it sounds damm good for a 4-cylnder but will never have the actual v-8 rumble(but then again, nither do sy/ty's) It gets loud at wot above 3000 rpms, but I was just coasting along wating for him to get even with me so I could check out his truck. I didn't put it on my car beacuse it was loud, I got it bacuse it flows very well, and makes my car go faster.

Theres not 10' tall wing on my car(just the stock thumb nail spoiler) no ugly primered body kit, or a billon stickers for parts I don't have- I even still have the stock rims on my car.

To tell the truth, I don't even race that much anymore beacues theres not much left in my small town that can keep up. For reference most of the vipers I've seen at the track here run 13.5's 13.6's. I was hoping that mabey this sy was a sleeper, and had some shit done so I could get my ass kicked, or at least have a good race.

you are correct, sytys exhausts do not sound like V8s, because theyre not V8s. taking this into consideration i chose to get the quietest free flowing exhaust i could find... because flowmasters or other typically loud exhausts on V6's or 4bangers sound like shit IMO. what i find hard to believe is that no one makes a quiet free flowing exhaust for rice burners? granted your car is one in few thats remotely quick, 90% of the other ricers at the track are running 15's and 16's, and seem to waste more time and money turning their moms 10 year old hand me down honda into a disco on wheels, than attempting to get any kind of performance out of it. and with the loud annoying exhaust on it, it seems like "hey look at me and my POS that runs 16's!!" to me trying to make a honda fast, especially the old 4 bangers that were putting out like 95hp, is like jacking off with an oven mitt... whats the point?

like the hip hop culture, im just gonna file this "import" phenomenon, under things i will just never understand.

if my opinion on imports makes me a snob then so be it. but id say im more of an ignorant asshole than a snob. :D

I raced a guy with an AWD eclipse turbo, said he had new impeller, chip, K&N and somthing else. but i told him i ran 14.0 (really 13.8 with 108Kmiles with only K&N) he thought he would run low 13 mabey 13.5 so we race, i killed him bad, real bad, buy the time i let off at 100 he was like 8-9 cars back, i did creap off the line a bit, but didnt let off the break tell the 3rd horn, i dont know, i didnt think it was fast, and i havent seen a fast one around here yet.

now your car my be fast but its no Sy or Ty so stop saying you can take a stock sy, you should have left that out and none of this would have happened.

but good times for your car if vipers are runing 13.5's in your area, ive seen lots of stock ones in the 12's in KC

I pulled a 1.79 in an untuned Ty, having never raced it before. I have smoked many DSM's from a light. Its really quite easy.

The problem you are having is that you drive a "ricer dream car" If you lived your whole life being kicked by every guy in a red hat that walked by, you would develop an aversion to guys in red hats right. Well, since 8 out of 10 or even more of the DSM drivers "ricerized" that I encounter are douche bags, I have developed an aversion to them. You are driving a DSM with a loud exhaust. I give you props for modding and racing, but at first glance most guys are gonna see just another ricer punk that doesn't know his ass from a hole in the ground.

BTW, My Mom drives a turbo Spyder, and I must admit its fun, but with every seat in my Ty full, and a load of shit in the back, it still sees only tail lights and exhaust.

Hope you find yourself a SYTY one day and become a snob like the rest of us, thats the only way you'll ever really understand.

:( This is what pisses me off- retarded fucks running around in DSM's that have no idea what there doing- New impeller? what the fuck is that? a Chip? DSM's don't even need chips, the stock computer is fine tuned to the knock sensor, and if your not knocking, then it will give you all the timing you want. What I'm trying to do here is prove that there are fast imports, and that not all of us are drving "type r(etarded)" honduhs with V-tek and mad tyte rims. I'm not exactly sure what stock sy/tys would run at my altitude, whats a good number for sea leavel so I can plug it into the nhra correction factor(which I know is unreal, but its better than nothing) supposadly my car comes out to a 13.004 at sea level, but I'm not sure it could run that.

Now, I know of a guy with a 1g Eclipse thats gone 12.5 @109 with a k&n filter, exhaust, boost controller and some weight reduction- This is not the norm for dsm's but shows what one can do when some one that knows what the hells going on owns one.

I just got my beater 89 caviler station wagon running, and I'm actualy planning on putting my talon back to stock, selling it and the parts and moving on to something else- I've been having issues with powerbreaking on the stock t/c and one night I can pull 1.81's 60 ft times, and the next I can't even build boost and pull 2.6 60' times- a nice highstall t/c costs 1100$ and I'm just not feeling it- its time to get somthing else. I would love to buy a ty/sy but most of them around here are so beat up. :( I may be moving on to a 1g dsm.

I'm more than willing- but I don't ever see any syclones around here. That one I saw was the first time I've ever seen one on the street around here ever. I'm going to have to decide weather to put a high stall t/c in my car or sell it.

matter of fact there is a video of one of my runs when my Ty ran a 1.8 60ft....

I did run a 1.67 back when the truck was near stock in the days of 12.8@105

Funny how the 60' times get slower when the 1/4 mile times get faster......

Theres a reson I'm on this board, and its bacuse I love sy/tys and if I coudl afford one, I would have one- but the ones I want(ones with low miles) are out of my price range.

My talon has quite a bit done to it, and runs 13.9's @97 at 4800 ft above sea level (and pulls 1.81 sec 60' times with a good powerbreak launch). I've driven both a stock ty, and a stock sy(it had a k&n) and neither felt as fast as my car- I also manged to put 6-7 car lengths on a ty for a roll, the ty had exaust and a chip. I still would trade my car for a nice low miles ty in a hart beat(plus my left nut)

It just irated me that this guy a a nice looking syclone that I wanted to give the the good old thumbs up for, he saw me do it- and just looked away. I know damm well when people give me props for my car I try to give them a wave back or somthing.



Maybe the guy is plain old shy.

I probably would have went on about my business with a grin (if I were the other guy). It feels good to know that these trucks can spank most vehicles that roll up at a light. Its even more fulfilling when someone recognizes the truck, respects that and gives a thumbs up, and you BOTH know that you dont have to prove it.

Dont get mad because he wouldn't play with you. There's a time and a place for it. He, like most mature adults with families, probably recognized that and didnt care to waste fuel and the possiblilty of a ticket to demonstrate the inevitable to you. Probably playing it smart. In the end, discretion is often better than an ego booster.

Snob? Likely not. Ive yet to meet an owner over the age of 21 that I would consider a snob. Proud? Most are. There IS a difference. :wink:
