dissable Knock sensor under 5PSI?

i finally have my truck running better than ever.
but i got some false knock while the engine is idling, or when it just isn;t under load.
at WOT and 14PSI of boost i don't have anny knock at all.

when cruising it, you can feel it adjusting timing, so it goes up and down in RPM a bit, and just ain't cool when you are cruising.

i already spent somuch freaking time in the past to hunt down a false knock, and it''s getting real old real soon.

Can you burn a chip that dissables the KS under 5PSI of boost, and use it above that level?

thanks

Re: dissable Knock sensor under 5PSI?

more than a few people with built shortblocks have had similar experiences with false knock under no load.....i'm starting to believe that this is due to mechanical lash from upgraded valvetrains ect. that tends to stabilize once the engine is under load or hard throttle....bruce and myself are both getting this knock around 2100-2200 rpm.....i still think a possible solution might be to relocate the knock sensor to the drain plug on the side of the block....maybe even install 2 knock sensors....one on each side....just a thought :2cents:

i already have 2 knock sensors installed, maybe i should play with the location alittle bit more,
atleast i don''t have false knock under boost (that just makes you freak out, cause you don;t know what to trust).
so as how i get it, we should be able to dissable the knock sensor under 2K rpm?

No way to disable just under 2k rpm unless you understand machine code Assembly language and hack the stock code.

Hmmmm....

What about using a Hobbs switch to switch between a resistor and the knock sensor?

Jim,

are you suggesting a pressure switch or a mechanical one?? would you really need a resistor? great thinking as usual....

I was thinking a pressure switch.

I think you will get a malfunction flag without the resistor.

Not really a solution or as good of an idea as a hobbs switch, but you could make F6 (knock attack rate) really sluggish at low RPM and F7 (knock recovery rate) really aggressive. It might minimize some of what you are feeling. Not sure what the max. value is on these tables off the top of my head, but I've used 400% recovery in seveal of my chips at the lower RPM levels.
