Decals on the Typhoon finally

Well I was bored and thought I would wash the Ty before I started tearing the suspension off... I installed the graphics from Rob at Bergers Laser.

They are top notch... a bit hard to get off the backing paper, but once you get the trick, no problems. They are Carbon Fiber with a silver background.. a bit hard to tell since it is getting dark. Also put some CF "GMC"'s in the centers of the chrome ZR's

Swapping tranny this week... CF driveshaft... JS Design suspension.. hope to start making some passes soon.

Nick, where did you get the idea of putting the 'gmc' stickers in the center of the ZR1's? :wink: I love mine and received many compliments at the nats about them. Im glad Jason B. from CO Springs did that to them.

I ended up using an exacto hobby razor to seperate the sticker from the backing.
Miffed a couple edges, so I'd like to know a better way for next time.

Zack... I actually did not know your had those.. I just did it cause the stock ones did... that is cool though.. I like it.

Jas... I just did what you did.. slid a razor up under them and then the decal peeled fine. The GMC Truck sticker was a beeeyotch.

Once they're applied?

Keep the paper backing parallel to the surface. So it makes a tight bend.
Basically, you are folding the backing back (180 deg.), then sliding the backing across itself.

Don't pull straight outward (90 deg.)
If you see an edge lift, then use the Xacto to gently pick it off of the backing. Or, if you did it like me, let the lightly soaped water dry a little longer and then continue.

The GMC is not carbon fiber in the middle on the tailgate... I am sure if you wanted them that way Rob can do it without a problem.

I also have the GMC centers on my GS wheels. Black center with red GMC logo......looks awesome. Now I just need to find some good black lug nuts that don't lose the covers constantly.

I just got a decal set from Rob this week. I am not looking forward to this removing-them-from-the-paper-backing stuff at all.

What are you using soapy water for?

Spray a bit on the truck... lets you put the decals on and slide them around into the position a bit.

A BIT of soap.. meaning 1 or 2 drops in a windex bottle filled up with water... if you use too much the decals will slide around and you will have to wait for them to dry before you can pull the front off.

It is really not that bad.. the GMC truck sticker on the rear was the only bad one... it is a PITA

Ok, so this is what I do?

With the decal facing me as "TYPHOON"
1.) Peel off the 'backing' (back piece of paper) to expose the adhesive of the decal while the 'fronting',for lack of a better term,...stays on
2.) Spray soap/water on truck
3.) Set decal in proper position
4.) Let dry for awhile
5.) Peel off 'fronting'
6.) Done

Just want to make sure so I don't mess them up. I don't have much decal experience. :-?

That is basically it... except in between 3 and 4 you want to push with a squeegee (sp?) or your finger, as much water out of behind the decal as you can.. of course being careful not to move the decal in the process.

Hey Nick, glad you liked them.....as far as it being a PITA to get them off of the backing paper...I've been working on a solution, but you have the right idea - I use a Xacto knife on them too...

I cut the decals using a laser....it's hard to get a *perfect* kiss cut, so what happens is two things....the laser penetrates a little into the backing paper and also superheats the adhesive for just a split sec, making them tougher to get off..... Believe it or not, they used to be WAY harder......I've got some new material coming in that I think will solve this problem.

If anyone has trashed theirs because of this, please let me know when it happens and I'll take care you.

I put my decals on last night. It wasn't too bad, but wasn't much fun either. :-?

I didn't have any problems with the decals sticking to the backing paper.
