Here is some suggestions from Andrew about data errors:
"The way I see it, we have a few possibilities.
1) There is a loose component in the cable.
2) You have a loose ground wire or faulty ALDL connection
3) There is noise on the ALDL data line from an ignition system component
The cable seems to get data OK when the truck is at idle. Every now and then, we see a Data Err packet. However, once you start accelerating, there is a LOT of Data Err. This is what makes me think it's either a noise issue (spark plugs, spark plug wires) or a loose ECM ground shaking around and causing noise on the ground wire. Unfortunately, I don't know the SyTy under hood wiring setup, nor the ECM wiring. However, I know that on my Camaro, the PCM is grounded on the engine, and if that lug is loose, it could cause weird things.
Are you running noise suppression spark plug wires? (not the solid core low-ohm copper wire jobbers, but something with some noise suppresion?)
Are your spark plugs OK? Is the truck 'missing' at all? Do you have an aftermarket ignition system installed?
I noticed on SyTy.net that one person suggested tying a ground from the ECM shell to a grounding stud on the frame. Have you tried that?
Thanks!
Andrew"
