Cv Axle Removal

Tore a inner boot on the CV Axle the other day, trying to replace it and cannot completely separate the lower A-arm and the spindle for the life of me. The ball joint stud is sitting flush with the bottom of the spindle and won't go anymore.

What all needs to be removed to get the spindle off?

I've done it a few times, Matt, and it's never easy. You might disconnect the tie-rod, if you haven't, to free up a little more mobility. If I was still closer I'd come over and help tomorrow.

Seperate the upper balljoint first. You won't be able to sperate the lower ball joint without doing the upper first. I just did mine a few weeks ago, remove the nut on the upper balljoint, smack the spindle down with a hammer to seperate them, then seperate the lower balljoint and swing the spindle out of the way. You can leave the tie rod in place. The lower control arm is spring loaded by the torsion bar so it's much easier to remove the upper first :tup:

And please ALWAYS KEEP A JACKSTAND UNDER THE LOWER CONTROL ARM! You don't want the control arm springing down, if something gets in the way of that... it's toast. Especially body parts!
