What is better :

Reground my New crank that i bought form GM that spun 2 main bearings, or buy a New Scat crank ?

If reground, what is the limit, 10, 20 under ?

Thanks..

Re: Crank ??

10 under should not be a problem, i would not do 20 under though. Otherwise lots of pick and pulls have tons of cranks. clean, polish. balance install. all depends on how bad the bearings spun...

Re: Crank ??

I would vote for a genuine GM crank, whether it's your original crank or another replacement. There are so many of the GM cranks in existence, I just don't think it pays to try something from overseas.

My 2 cents,

Re: Crank ??

well, if you spun a bearing theres about a 50/50 chance it dug farther than a few 10 thousands into the surface, you may need a new crank. a j yard one isnt bad if you can get a good one, i had a hard time around here finding the same kind, (they all are newer and look different, no one knew what the diff was though) i ended up getting a scat, i got it for about 300 bucks, only prob is i gotta wait 2-3 weeks while its made. if you can find someone stocking one youll have it made in the shade :)

I would like to see pics of the bearings and ring lands on that engine to determine if the likely cause was severe detonation. If that's the case, an unobtanium-based crank would do the same thing.

I broke a crank also that also pulled the webbing out out the block on one of the main. I was starting to have bearing issues(low oil pressure when hot) but no knocking or anything wasnt in it hard at all the bottom let go broke crank in 3 peices and broke block destoryed almost everything in the motor. Will have to see if i still have the pics on my laptop.

WoW that pic is scary. Its a tuff choice between stock cut down and new Chinies mmm.
I guess luck has alot to do with it, also good tune.

I just wanted a good realible fun vehicle that runs low 12s high 11s. Typhoon is def fun, confy, very nice looking. I just wish that machine shop have done the job they where paid for!

Oh well, i have to sleep on it more.
