Converter lockup question

My Typhoons transmission is acting kinda funny and I was hoping you all could point me in the right direction.

It will shift to overdrive at around 47mph but it feels like the converter is always locked up. Once it hits high gear it falls on its face (falls to about 1400rpms). I even have to use a couple lbs of boost to merge onto the highway or climb hills. Should I be able to feel the converter lockup at a higher speed or anything? Is there a way to tell if it is locked up or not? Is that normal for these trucks or does it sound like I need to adjust something?

Also, I can make the truck kick down if I gun it, but it only stays in low gear for a second or so and then upshifts again.

The 700r4 was rebuilt recently and has a 9/11 2800 stall in it if that matters.

Thanks in Advance,
Dustin

Re: Converter lockup question

If you tap & hold the brake (lightly) that should unlock your convertor. May help you diagnose whether it's a convertor problem or something else. I have the same convertor in my Sy and it works great!

Re: Converter lockup question

Converter lockup will feel like a "5th" gear of sorts, only it will only drop about 100-300 rpm at most. Yes, tapping the brake should unlock it and the rpm will jump back up until it is ready to lock again. making sure your TV cable is set properly is VERY important on the 700's. You could also try unplugging the electrical connector on the transmission (which will disable lockup completely) and see if your problem still exists. (after setting the cable of course) Of course, Varify fluid is full and in good condition. Give these a try and see what happens.
