CONFIRMED: FP has bitten the dust; new help!!.....

Hey all. Need someone to tell me I'm on the right track. The other day the Ty stumbled a bit upon part throttle or near full throttle acceleration. Yes, It had plenty fuel in the tank (1/2 full) and the fuel filter is recent (18 mo.). Had this happen in one of my turbo Buicks and it turned out to be the fuel pump self cannibal-izing. Wondering if that's what is going on here. Can anyone help please?!??

It happened to me once. Turned out being bad gas. I ran some gas cleaner and never went back to that station. It worked for me.

Good luck.

I'd guess it is fuel related also.

Duh!! Well, I confirmed the worst today. Checked fuel pressure @ idle, 35 psi. But under (attempted) acceleration, pressure DROPPED to 8 psi!! 13+ yrs, 36K mi. and the stock pump has bitten the dust.

I'll be installing the Walbro I bought last yr. (for just this problem!) from Detroit Turbo. Anyone have any instructions on installation?? Things to look out for, etc. I also purchased their hot-wire kit at the same time. I'm assuming it installs similarly to the one I did for my turbo Buick, no??

yea most GM pumps are the same, my friends gnash walbro pump fit on my friends s10. not much to it except to drop the tank and put the new pump, pretty cut and dry.

Welp, started @ 8:30pm Sat. eve. w/Russ and we were pretty well done by 11:30p. It's DEFINITELY nice to have a friend, air tools, etc., but like most other pump replacements, it's not necessary: just takes more time. We weren't rushing either! Looked like I brought back 1/2 of Colo. when I bought the truck!! Never seen so much sand/gravel in my entire life!! FYI, my local shop wanted ~$230 to do this job; spec'd 1/2 an hour just to drop the tank cover!! I don't think so......

I'll post details later this week. Pics are kinda redundant by now, but if someone wants.....

Oh, BTW....Ty runs better than new!!! Haven't had this much fun in awhile!!

BTW 2, Can someone give me a good reason why it should be necessary to replace the regulator w/an aftermarket adjustable?? I've read this several time, but no real good info yet. Also, those of you that are replacing fuses w/higher amperage ones are ASKING FOR TROUBLE!! Install the hotwire kit and there's no reason to go to a higher amperage fuse!!

Replacing your regulator will help with fine tuning your truck in. When I first got my Sy the factory regulator has it set at 42.5 psi, now I can raise or lower it to suit the tuning of the truck. With no other supporting mods I have been reading to run it at 45-47 ish psi, but I believe you run it lower if your running alky. So basically it helps in your tuning needs.

Guess I should've been more specific.....if you're Sy/Ty is DEAD STOCK, why would you need an adj. regulator?!??

Even the completely stock ones are usually tuned very poorly and could benifit from improvement. If your F/P is too low and creating a lean condition ( besides the pump you just did ) you may need to raise the base F/P. You could be just fine, but without a datalogging program telling you if your getting any knock or not it's hard to say if your F/P needs to be raised up or not.
