Code59 Bin Help

Rob(Wyosyclone) has been helping me since I got Code59. We have tried numerous Bins in my truck, but the Starter Bin that I got from Hood is working the best. The boost was set around 17.92psi from what Hood set it at. Rob told me to lower the boost in the F71_MPH table to 55 + F70_MPH to 14.99. Once I did that, the boost was lower and much safer to do a DM run. Now here's the problem. After I lowered the Boost, we went to do a DM run. The KR is very low to non-existent which is great.(1st pic)
Code59Starter1.jpg

Rob suggested that since my Wideband is PLX, that I changed the Setting in the Flags section to the PLX instead of the Techedge. He said it might change my AFR values. Besides the PLX change, I lowered the F71_MPH to around 53 at around 50mph. The KR is a lot higher for some reason in this run.
Code59Starter2.jpg

Since that run was worse, I decided to switch back the WB setting to Techedge to see if it would help and it didn't.
Code59Starter3.jpg

The only thing that I think would make a difference is that the 1st run was taken in the evening about 10-15* cooler and the 2nd + 3rd runs looked Leaner. I tried PMing Jeff, Hood and Dig since Rob is on vacation till tomorrow, but they didn't reply.

Any help would be appreciated. I felt that I was almost done with my Tune, but now I'm still fighting this KR issue.

Re: Code59 Bin Help

Why are you at 13.1 afr at 18psi??????????

Your first run was 11.7afr which is MUCH safer. Your gonna kiss that motor goodbye running it that lean with that much boost.

Need to work on your VE table and tune the file for your truck. Your never going to be able to just download a file and expect it to work.

^That is the same question I have. Nothing was changed between the 1st and 3rd files. It does look lean. Rob was helping me adjust the tables to help the KR. I wanted to try the Starter Bin to see how far off I am. I'm not saying I was just guna upload the Starter Bin and forget it and hope it runs 100%. Thanks for your insite.

I have a similar problem occasionally. Say I drive it to get dinner, it will cruise around perfect, but after I start it to drive back home, it has leaned out everywhere. Nothing has changed besides it sitting for an hour or so.

Ok the Flag settings for which WBo2 controller you have are very important for out putting the correct AFR in the ALDL. If you select the wrong one, it will output the wrong AFR in the ALDL. The techedge formula is volts*2+9. (9 to 19afr) Where PLX is volts*2+10 (10 to 20AFR). If you select techedge while using the PLX controller, your AFR in teh ALDL will be off by 1 AFR. So make sure you select the correct one.

The hot restart problem is a tune issue. You are going to have to tweak the tune to correct this. Try lowering the 91 kpa and 101, 110 kpa 400 and 800 rpm settings to see if it helps. There are other tables you may need to tweak. Look in the cold/run section for the tables and constants. The F56 and F57 settings affect hot/cold running. Along with the cranking settings for starting.

Paul,

Thank you for your reply. What is puzzling me is that the 1st and 3rd files are the same except two different days and I didn't change anything except the flag setting for the WBo2 which were set at the techedge formula on both files which I now know is wrong but why the drastic changes from both runs.
The 2nd file is when Rob noticed I had the wrong WBo2 selected and that run is when I changed it to PLX.
I'm really getting into this code 59 but it is sometimes frustrating when a person is just starting off and trying to figure out what to change. I have over 100 pages printed from the code 59 powerpoint and have been reading as much as I can but I really don't want to hurt my motor and just need a safe starting point.

Thank You,

Yup, first thing I did when I started helping Sean was to get things richened up, a lot! The last tune I sent had it running from 11.2 to 11.6. The info shown is from a starter BIN from another member, before any AFR massaging had been done.

The goal on this one will be to have around 15lbs of boost, adequate timing, and safe as possible on the AFRs. I'll be working with Sean on it today and we'll hopefully get things ironed out.

One strange issue, however, is when we switch from the (incorrect) TechEdge setting on the WB, to the correct PLX setting the KR goes up. I'm going to have to dig into this a bit to see what is going on. The knock actually increases and kind of duplicates a problem I've been fightin on my Sy (I'm using the PLX as well). It may be a coincidence but needs to be checked regardless.

Re: Code59 Bin Help

I would like to thank Rob (Wyosyclone) for all his help!! He has been helping me since I got Code59. We started off with the Starter Bin that I got from Hood. It was a pretty decent Bin from the get go. Rob and I made changes to the Fueling and Boost to make it just right. I have just over 15 DM Files from the testing. Without Rob, I wouldn't be as close as I am now. The truck pulls extremely hard for what it is, and now the tune is Solid. Here is the Latest DM File.

Thanks again Rob for all your help, I really appreciate it. I hope to one day help a Newbie with Code59 just like you did me.

Re: Code59 Bin Help

Thanks for the props Sean :D

That last BIN I just sent should bring the AFR's more in line... that last run was still a tad lean, but a big improvement from where we started. The boost line should almost be ruler flat with the new BIN as well.

Hood's starter BIN was great, and just goes to show that even minor mods make a huge difference in the tune... it's so easy to go from safe, to a hand grenade with the pin pulled.

We'll post a writeup on this one over on the Code59 site.

Re: Code59 Bin Help

Your VE table is 93?Your injector Dutie cycle is at 100%.........
Also your AFR is requesting 12.4 that is a bit lean looks to me like you need MORE FUEL WOT.
Be careful.

Yup, that's before we added the last shot of fuel... I'm trying to get it down to 10.8 to 11 at WOT... we're at 11.6 to 11.9 now. We may have to turn the boost down a bit.

While I'd agree that 12.4 is pushing it, I'd warn against being too into particular numbers. 12.0 might be right for this particular truck. If KR is gone, it's gone.

Personally I'd get to a non KR point on a gas quality that's slightly less than what you normally run, and then do a plug check to verify what you're seeing. If it's good, it's good.

Hey Dig,
Thanks for chiming in here :)
Checking the plugs was going to be my next step on this one. Seems like we've gotten to a point of diminishing returns on KR vs AFRs. This is the only situation where it'd be nice to have an EGT... timing is good, KR is good, AFRs are a small question. We'll make one last run then possibly just put one new plug in #1, make a run, then see what it tells us.

edit... and I'll get a thread going on this one over on the '59 site and post the BIN.

Re: Code59 Bin Help

Here is the Latest Bin. The KR is very low and the Boost doesn't go over 15.5. I'm going to try and bump the FP to 52psi. I have it at 50psi now. Rob added a lot of fuel to the tables, but this might help out some. Going to try the added FP soon and will post up the File here.

Make another log file, only this time with the throttle all the way open. You're only at 90% or so vs. the 100% in the last log.

You could maybe get rid of some of the spikes on the shifts by turning DC reset back on for the shift points.

You appear to have a consistent knock event right at about 3400 rpm. You might want to pull back a .5 degree in that RPM range only from about 170-190 kpa.

Yup, we've got the WGDC dialed clear back to zero at the shift points. I saw it opening the WG to full open trying to control boost at the top of third, so I tried to anticipate it on the shift and tame it that way. It did bring it down about 2.8psi overall, but we still have that little bump at the shift.
The JSM downpipe and ported stock turbo are flowing quite a bit of air. I had Sean check the wastegate rod and it seems to be optimized.
I wanted him to put a radiator test pump on the line to the WG diagphragm, pump it up to 15 and make sure it held, and to see what the rod travel is... we haven't gotten there yet.
You're right, at this point we need to go into F1 and pull the timing back a bit in that area. Hood has a bit of a bump built into the curve at that point - we'll start with .5 and see if that does it - if not we'll go up a bit more.

Re: Code59 Bin Help

Heres the latest Run with 52psi FP. It was 90* outside. Have new UR6 plugs .028 installed two days ago. I verified that the WG actuator holds 15psi before. It still creeps in 3rd gear even with the DC at 0. The KR isn't that bad but I think we need to try the F1 table now.

Re: Code59 Bin Help

Yup, time to turn F1 down in those spots Sean. I've found that once a motor starts to knock that it's hard to get it to stop. So, start removing some timing just a bit before it actually starts on the log. You want to pre-emptively keep it out of the KR condition.

Re: Code59 Bin Help

Heres another Run with the Timing lowered in the F1 table early in the run. Looks like it needs some more adjustment before and through the 3rd gear shift and a little after. It's getting their.
